Put a gamecam out on a deer carcass

Found a buck dead in our tank last weekend, presumably from the rut, and tied him to a tree to let him finish decomposing.
This was the work they had done in a week. Thought it would have been more, but the freezing temps last week probably had something to do with that.
It was pretty much the usual suspects you would think, still some pretty cool pics though.
Majority of the pictures were coyotes
Only picture we got of a bobcat, who doesn't appear interested, which was kind of surprising
Hog
Possum
Lotta mexican eagles
Also a lot of green jays. I assume eating the bugs on the carcass and not actually the carcass but who knows.

Any deer? I left a carcus out this year and I had two deer come within 2 feet of it smelling it I guess who knows. But my camera was jacked up and took 3 pictures a minute so by the time I got back to it it was out of batteries, and something had carried the damn carcus off. I'm assuming a pack of yotes.

Nope. Surprisingly no javelinas either.

Yes

Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Those Green Jays are nice. How far south in Texas are you?
I've heard them called Mexican buzzards before, but not eagles. Interesting. However, Crested Caracaras are more closely related to falcons than to either vultures or eagles. (Not implying that you didn't know that, but I just couldn't help myself and had to share knowledge.)

We are outside of Tilden...SW portion of McMullen Co

I did not know that. I knew they were technically called caracaras, but the locals always referred to them as Mexican eagles so we just kinda stuck with that. The birds of prey down there are plentiful.

Crazy what goes on at night.
I gutted one this year too close to my stand and was worried, went back hunting the next day and it was 100% cleaned up.

That explains why there are no pics of black panthers or chupacabras like we have over here

I shot or scared them all away.

How the hell did the turkey vultures not find that thing in 3 days? crazy

There were a good amount of vulture pictures, I just didn’t think so save any on my phone. If I remember to update this thread next time I head down and pull cams, I’ll post some buzzard pics for you

never know what's gonna turn up around dead animals.
If anyone very wants to eat a possum read this story. My grandfather used to raise cattle and had this happen to him once.
Possum season

Possum season
quote:
I once saw a dead cow lying under an oak tree. During a thunderstorm, lightning hit the tree and killed the cow, who was standing under the tree at the time. The cow laid there for almost a week in the Southern summertime before the farmer finally hired a back-hoe operator to bury it.
My friends and I cut through that field one day before that burial and the cow appeared to be breathing. It was stinking to high heaven, but it's sides were pulsating. Flies were buzzing around it and maggots were already making their presence known, but the cow was MOVING. One of my friends grabbed a stick and beat on the cow.
After that, we counted six possums retreating from the cow's a-hole, right through the way they came in. They had been inside the cow feasting on that rotten meat from the inside out. I don't believe I've ever seen a more disgusting sight in my life.

Hmm. I wonder if that’s a regional thing in Texas? I was in the Houston area, and heard them called Mexican buzzards down in the San Bernard area.
