Potential trail camera ban in Arizona

Technology is starting to blur the lines of “fair chase” in my opinion. Before trail cams, you don’t know what deer you had unless you saw them in person
Now you can be on one stand or at the house and get a text of deer at your feeder and go kill it, not really fair chase
Throw in livescope in the convo as well. No way anyone considers that fair chase
Get off my lawn

Doubt seriously they have enough green jeans to enforce that ban.

What is fair chase even mean? Such a lib term. So rifles are fair chase ? Shooting something so far away they aren’t even scared you are there? Humans are trying to kill an animal that isn’t trying to or able to kill you back, that’s not ‘fair’.
Given that, how do you ban something not only used for hunting? So bird watchers and biologists can’t use them to watch animals either?

Personally I don’t care how anyone decides to hunt on their own land.
Cell cams have changed the game for us on our little piece. Guys are more familiar with the bucks that are hanging around, and are less prone to just see a rack and sling lead. Getting the pics in real time gives us a chance to discuss over the week instead of seeing them for the first time on a Friday evening along with 2000 other pics. Can also leave the area alone if you see it doesn’t need anything. Anyone who thinks it’s as easy as see deer go kill deer hasn’t actually used the cams, they don’t sit there patiently waiting for you to roll up. It’s helpful to know the areas a buck may be frequenting, same as any cam, it’s just easier to keep up with.
I can see how they might need to be banned on public since it could lead to arguments over spots, but it should be the same arguments against all cams.

If a deer is that dumb it deserves to die.

If anything the feeder is less "fair chase" than a trail cam. Without the feeder, at least you have to do a little work to find game trails or scrapes to know what spots to put a camera out at.

I beg to differ.

Out West, the problem is having a bunch of different cameras on waterholes and various hunters trying to claim the waterhole.
Generally, I shoot less bucks using cameras because I’ve already decided to pass them up.

Aren't deer populations rising though?

I most certainly have done this with my spypoint micro in Texas. I receive pictures from it within 3-4 minutes of trigger for deer and hogs and regularly use it to slip up and kill hogs.
I could easily see where this would be used for targeting big game out west. I have been considering going back to traditional cameras because it does take away something from the hunt in my opinion.

I enjoy sitting around my living room every Friday afternoon with my 6 kids as we go through the pics from my trail camera. It keeps the kids engaged and excited about what is coming in. I couldn't care one bit if someone thinks it takes away from 'fair chase'. If they are going to ban trail cameras and use the 'fair chase' excuse then they should also make everyone hand make a long bow, hand make your arrows, and then make your broad heads out of flint rock.

Has happened several times at a buddy’s club. Have a camera on the plot right behind the camp. Come in for lunch and get a text of a deer and slip around and shoot it

It has definitely happened once.

I agree with this and I'm looking at buying a cellular camera myself. I don't want it for watching corn piles or feeders, but rather I want to be able to put it on hard-to-reach trails and crossings to get a better idea of where deer are moving without having to go in and out of the area to pull cards.

I’m for it , ban feeding too

If I recall correctly, trail cams are illegal to use in Montana during hunting season. That seems like a good compromise.

I can't keep them from busting me if I get there 4 hours early and control as much of my scent as I can. Didn't realize it was this easy.

You’re right. It absolutely has. With deer and turkeys, hat I know of.
