Preferably something in 9mm. I lost a Ruger SR9 in a boating accident and am looking for something higher quality.

If you are trying to get “higher quality” than a Ruger SR9 for under $600 you might find it tough.

Lots of good pistols for under $600. Shouldn’t be hard to find one to your liking.

Look at some of the retired police pistols. I've bought a few and you can get a really nice quality weapon for far less money. Most are not the CC size but can be had in 9mm. Last one I bought was a S&W 5906 in about 95% and it was under $300

Has anyone seen a Glock 9mm for sale recently? What is going on with them?
None in stock anywhere.

Sure are. How many are higher quality than a Ruger SR9?

Tbh I’m a pistol novice. I don’t see people using it at the ranges the times I’ve been and I don’t see it brought up on here. Not that cost is the ultimate factor but it’s a relatively cheap pistol.

I love my Walther PPQ 9mm, and you can get it for less than $500. Super shooter, terrific trigger and reliable as they come. Same with the HK VP9.

Lots of good options. I use CDNN sports, Kentucky Gun , or Buds Guns. Lots to browse through. Just FYI I recently purchased a Glock 22 and live it. Best advice I can give ya is, go to a local store and handle them all.

My next one will be a Glock 43X.

I’ve owned a Ruger P95, a couple of Springfield XD models, and shot friends HK, Glock, Beretta, etc. I ended up on the XDs in 9mm. Sort of in between the old XD subcompact and service models. And it is single stack.
But try out several and get what you handle the best. The grips on mine and how easy it was for me to shoot is what sold me. The only other fun that felt this natural was a Kimber 1911 that my friend wouldn’t sell me.

Combination of the pandemic and idiots in the streets equal people buying lots of guns. There is low stock everywhere.

If you go used, not an issue at all. Guns don't "expire".
For half that price, I've picked up a CZ 75, Beretta 92FS, a S&W 5906, and a cosmetically challenged but dead-reliable Sig P226, among others.
Just a hint, once you have the gun at the house, it's used.
For 400, I picked up a LNIB Sig P226.
