Amazon has them marked down to $55.97 on Prime Day. Is this reel big enough to handle coastal fishing for trout or redfish?

Absolutely. They're workhorse reels that are perfect for that. I have one that's 10 years old and I can't kill it. Plenty of muscle for trout and the occasional bull red.

Absolutely. They are tough as nails too.

so at the $55.97 price point is that a slam dunk deal or just an average sale price? Amazon says it is 44% off but the $100 reg price may be far-fetched

Usually the only difference between a 2500 and a 3000 size spinning reel is the size of the spool. The body and internals will all be the same. The 2500 will hold 160 yards of 20lb braid, the 3000 will hold 180 yards. For most people the difference is negligible and a full spool is more than enough to fight a bullred without getting spooled. I've caught many big bull reds and black drum on mine and it was never an issue.

I have the 3000 and it's a solid reel with 15 lbs of drag. I use it for my Popping Cork.

I have a 3000 on a penn rod and love it, I bought a 2500 and 6000. one for specks and the 6000 to put a good snapper rod on for mangroves.

cant beat them for price. I use my baicasters more but I always have these for backups and windy days

It's a good price. They're usually in the $80-100 range.

It's a great price, sometimes you'll see them packaged with a rod as a combo for like $120, but the rod is trash. I think you can normally expect to pay closer to $80 - $100 for just the reel.

Ordered a few of these this morning. Been eyeing them because the lady is ready to start trout fishing and a baitcaster will never be in her hands again after last trip

Yes, it is a good reel. Fill it up with some 20-30lb power pro with a mono leader.

Shimanao NASCI 4000s are $72 which is a steal. 24 lbs of drag, make a good bottom/mangrove setup.
