+Peak ammo…new hotness or the future?

What will the next few cartridges be? Adding 300fps to a standard 7mm-08 would be impressive. I’m really interested in the 7mm BC. 7mm mag velocities with 168-175gr projectiles out of an 18” barrel! 80,000 psi is hella pressure but if the guns can handle it, this could be a major jump in technology.

Barnes vor-tx ttsx in 130 grain for 308 is wicked nasty. Accuracy is terrific too. I can’t imagine +Peak doing much better for the 308 at least.

I’d like a horizon with 16 inch to 18 inch barrel in 7MM BC but going to hold off and see what this new ammo does. I’ve got a lot of nice guns with good glass already that I don’t use because my cans may them way too long or they are not threaded.
Not sure what which route I’m going to go because I’ve got some classics in calibers they will probably never come out with the new ammo and some that are more common that will.
Goal would be to cut barrels and be able to keep similar velocity with new ammo.

I run 150’s out of my 16 inch bolt .308. I’d try a faster ammo to get some FPS back or bump up to 165’s.

I'm hoping they apply it to .308. I was interested in the 7 BC when I bought a new rifle last December but ended up with another 308. I was worried about if it would stick or not.

You'll be able to lop 4" off the barrel and get the same speed. Its a super big deal for suppressor hunters who want to shoot far.

It 100% is the future now that they’ve figured out how to reload it. If it was a disposable case then it would probably fade out. Other companies will copy the alloy and once all the tooling is swapped over it won’t add significant manufacturing cost and gives practical benefits, so when people get over the butthurt that the firearms industry insulted their 30-06 by inventing something new within the last 120 years, it’ll be the new standard.

Actually, I'm hoping they release a .30-06 version. Adding 300fps to a 150gr load would bring it up to 3,300fps.

I’d love to see it in 7mm-08 but that would kill their backcountry round. Interested to see how Hornady will respond now that a creedmoor can match a prc. Of course I bought a 6.5prc earlier this year and now I’m second guessing it

What will the increased PSI do to gun barrels? Decrease their life? Not have any consequences? Generally curious. Was that tested by federal?

They will, it or something similar that achieves higher pressure will eventually be an option in any cartridge.

Running at higher pressure will incrementally decrease barrel life. Federal has sugar coated it but that’s the trade off. You’re still talking a thousand or more rounds before the barrel is shot out so its a trade off most are fine making for a hunting rifle. Not all that different from handloading near max pressure, will vary a lot how overbored the original round was. A +peak 270 may not increase at all, a +peak 28 nosler may get two boxes and start flinging them.

No reason to second guess it. I love that cal and have a 6.5 creed, 6.5 PRC and .264 win mag.
I’d love to see a .243, 7mm-08 and .308 with extra arse. I say I’m done buying bolt action rifles but they keep finding a way to pull me back in. The good news is I’ve got several I can cut down and thread.
