Good GOD, the replies for every fish ID, LMAO

It is a female chinquapin (a.k.a. shell cracker, red ear, georgia brim)

The red on the ear lobe isn't as pronounced on females. As with all pa-ta-sas it is very good eating, enjoy!

Caught an ice chest full at lake Concordia a few years back.

Green jeans surveyed our catch. Turns out we had 5 different species of panfish.

What makes you think it's anything other than a bluegill?

Nothing. I am almost positive it's a bluegill.

I'm guessing:

Bluegill
Goggle eye
Sun Perch
Pumpkinseed
Chinquapin

This but instead of a goggle eye we had a long eared bluegill I think. Something long eared.

Long eared sunfish

Pumpkinseed

Red ear

Bluegill

Sun perch or something

Last one is a redbreast sunfish.

Y'all actually caught a pumpkin seed? They don't range into La., but a few look alikes do.

You are wrong. Explain away the red on the opecular lobe and mottled markings if it is a bluegill.

I don’t know if those were the exact ones but the GW laid them all out by species and counted how many of each.

Looks like the bluegill/pumkinseed sunfish hybrids I catch in some local ponds. There are so many hybrid variants its can be damn hard to identify the two parent species. The hybrids tend to be larger, have larger mouths and are more aggressive.

Wasn't aware there were so many different kinds. Anything not a Goggle Eye, Lake Runner, or Sac Au Lait, is a Perch.

No, you are wrong. Have you ever seen a red ear?

That's one of the problems with the id and why i posted. Look where the red is,

The fish I posted looks nothing like a red ear. I mean zero.
