Oyster ThievesPosted by KemoSabe65 on 2/22/21 at 12:41 pm

We have been fighting this battle for over ten years, some people just can’t comply with the law. Everyone knew these folks were fishing at night and now the feds are involved

Good that hopefully more of the oyster reefs can try to return to the lake. On a side note how bad do you hear the fish kill was from this cold blast?

keep in mind the very beginnings of the WLF in LA was for the safety and commerce of oysters. the oyster mafia is bigger than the crawfish mafia.
the other violations are all pretty serious too

Enforcement primarily but would bet they have them on film. Those oysters were loaded on a truck at the ferry and trucked to texas hence the Lacey Act.
Dyson is the oyster mafia in SW La and yes they piss on the crawfish mafia.
Nothing on freeze killing any fish, probably some but i checked the gauges from eye-ten to cameron and it wasn't under 45 long enough for major damage IMO.

Forfeiture should be on the table since its Federal now.
Illegal gear, over the limit, failure to tag sacks, interstate commerce, prohibited hours.
Could be fined up to $10,000, loss of vessels, prison(not gonna happen). They always got off in Cameron parish but I doubt the feds are going to let go of their balls to get a better grip. Oystering in Calcasieu is dead for all practical purposes now.

Warren coco said on a podcast that the oyster Lobbyists are the biggest in LA.
I never would have guessed that.

Oh yeah. And talk about all up in the middle of the coastal restoration efforts. Don’t even think about a freshwater diversion, they will throw fistfuls of money to head that off. They are lobbying the Feds HARD to close off Mardi Gras Pass

Exactly. Want to know why Venice and all that area is disappearing with no hope in sight? Thank the oyster lobby and oyster fishermen.
