Anyone have any recs here? Standard size opening. And It will be under a covered patio, so it wont get any rain. TIA

They won't last outdoors

I had an under counter one outside and the water solenoid would freeze and crack with just a few hours of freezing temperatures.

Seriously, though. The ONLY kind I've had any long term success with is an old-fashioned wedge ice machine. No, it's not Sonic ice, but it's always there when I need it.

All under counter ice makers suck and you will be replacing or fixing it more than you expect.

I asked that question to the guy that services my commercial coolers. His response... "It's cheaper to buy bags of ice at the corner store."

If you do get one, buy the extended warranty and keep it renewed.

Get a regular fridge w/ice maker. Had a single door inside (not ot baller), replaced it with a side by side (now ot baller). Put single door outside in man cave, works like a charm. Fill a couple of bags and put on stand by in the freezer next to the ice maker, profit. It did freeze a few years back where the water connects. Replaced myself, no problem.

My buddy folks have had one for years. It does these little wedge cubes. They never have had an issue. That being said. I want a full size ice machine.

Take your $1500+ and go to a strip joint. It would be better spent and last longer.

Never knew anyone that had any brand that lasted. I reuse the same old Dasani water bottles that I freeze. Clean em after each fishing trip and then go back in the freezer. These supplement the one 20lb bag that I do buy (as a courtesy for taking a dump at the gas station in Violet) and mix in with a little water for a slurry. Not sure what your use would be but as one other poster said the ice maker in your freezer can make enough for you to stock away. May be cheaper to get a small chest freezer for storing ice.

Buy a cheap used chest freezer on craiglist and make you a redneck ice machine.

Know a good place to pick one of these up? Locally (LA) or online?
See them recommended a lot, but they’re not as commonly available. Mostly commercial/restaurant supply type places.

Subtle brag coming. . .
I worked as a contractor at a mall and tenants would move in and out. After they're no longer allowed in the spaces anymore, the mall would allow us to go in and take whatever we wanted (they were going to toss it all in the dumpster anyways) and one of the restaurant left two 150lb hoshizaki ice makers behind. One worked and the other needed a $30 part to get running. I've had them for 5 years and no problems. One is in a laundry/ utility room and one in my garage. It's nice never having to go to the store for ice.
Definitely hoshizaki is the way to go. Their business is commercial so the only companies carrying them will likely be commercial/restaurant supply companies. Parts are pretty easily accessible and they're relatively simple units.

Hoshizaki ice maker. I have had mine for three years. No issues. Just make sure you drain and clean it every so often.
#: 440-C80BAJ
I bought mine from Katom (online).
