This is assuming you have local dealer mechanics/service at your service.
Im interested in hearing all recs from Yamaha 200f, 200 sho, Honda, zuke, etc.
What yall think from durability, performance, efficiency etc
what would you put on your bay boat and why

Whatever one I could get. Preferably a suzuki because I like that they are made for big props

Good luck finding any loose outboards

I'd say sho because of the ability to make it a 225, 250, or 300 with an Ecu tune..
But you gonna be on a long list.

The Yamaha 200 doesn’t have the same block as the 250 or 300. It’s a 4 cylinder. It’s a reliable motor but is considered by many to be an under-performer compared to Yamahas other motors such as the 150 and 250.
ETA: Sorry, my mistake. I was thinking of the regular 200 4 cylinder not the new Sho 200 which is a V6.

I have heard the regular 200 4cyl is a turd compared to v6 200's

I have the Yamaha 200 4 cylinder and it is a turd. I really wanted the eco inertia prop but bc it’s 4 cylinders it can’t handle it. Should’ve paid the up charge for the 250 with 6 cylinders. Maxed out at 5800 I’m getting around 45-46mph. Could be prop but just not impressed overall with torque

That's what I have on my 21' xpress, I admit I was ignorant when I ordered my 1st boat. I learned that 0ne 200 hp is not every 200hp.
I call it the pontoon motor, because that is all you see them on.
However, after 500 hours in 6 years it has been very reliable. I have had to replace the trim solenoid twice.
There are times I wish I had the sho, but I can run mid 50's alone with less gas.

Well reliability is by far the main concern when it comes to bay boat outboards IMO and in my years of having old busted up shite, I've come to appreciate anything on a boat that is reliable.
Seems these days everything on the market is excellent in that aspect.

I just put the new merc 6cyl 200 on my 22' bay boat. It is awesome. Comparably priced to the zukes. Waaay more power and displacement. Very happy with it.

All modern 4 strokes are pretty damn reliable these days, I would 100% pick based on service. I would go with a 6 cylinder over a 4 cylinder 200 though. I personally have a Yamaha F150XB, I did not pay for the "upgrade" to 200hp, the 150 punches above its weight class.
Good luck finding a 200 before the end of the year though, everyone is waiting on the more popular sizes right now and I have a feeling they are all going to new builds for the foreseeable future.

An available one.
Ordered my 200 HP Suzuki in early February, still don’t have a delivery date. The Yamaha dealers told me “6-8 months” was their best guess.

no. it's not.
it is a VERY reliable motor that sips gas and does everything I need it to. 23' bay bloat with 5 adults and loaded will easily cruise at 41mph (5400rpm).
Torque has never been an issue either.

This op is mainly intended assuming all motors are readily avaliable

Man there ain't shite wrong with that. From talking to people I know with them, it sounded like 35mph would be screaming on a 22' boat
