This here. I would imagine you could find a vet to come out.

May be I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't shoot my dog.

But prayers to you man, it's a tough time.

I'm sure anectine would be a better option than a bullet. A strong muscle relaxer sometimes used on arrows when bow hunting.

Science Diet. Makes a world difference for my old 11 year old lab. If she doesn't get it, she can't get up. Also, extra weight on a old dog is a killer. Using Science Diet and feeding my old pup only four 8 oz cups of food a day has taken off a lot of fat which help her a lot.

OP, that is a bit far for my daughter to travel. Do talk to your Vet. 99% of them will go out their way to help a animal. Being a Vet is a job of love for animals cause they really don't make bank like human doctors.

If my 13 year old dies here, do I take the body to the vet? I can't dig in my yard.

You can, but I would still find a place to lay my pup at rest.

We took our Black lab mix, Precious, in to Dr. Lowe's office at Flint River Animal Hospital. There's a room set up for this there. They give the first injection for the dog to mellow and go to sleep. The family can stay with the dog during this time, after that they take them to the back and administer the euthanasia drug.

It was hard to do, but in the end, I felt we were keeping the dog alive for us and she was miserable. So we had to do the humane thing and put her down. She was like 16/17 years old and losing more and more bodily functions/control daily.

My Dad put my Golden retriever down with a bullet. That dog was the result of too close of breeding lines and had grand mal seizures. Dad got tired of watching it happen. The bullet is definitely messy. I had to bury Breaux....and I was covered in blood afterwards. Not a fond memory, even though I was in high school and not a kid anymore...I knew what had to be done...it still not a memory I like.

Get the dog to your vet for a checkup. You're late already.

And some of the posts and posters in this thread are TOTALLY fricked up. You people keep people like me too damn busy with your stupid arse decisions.

There is a guy that lives in Prairieville and travels all over picking up dogs and cremating them, he will return the ashes or not depend on what you would like done. We have used him more that I would like the past year. I know he picks up from a lot of the vets in South Louisiana and the gulf coast. The name of the place is Four Paws Pet Cremation Service

We have a board expert on this, dont we?

one of mine is 13.5 yo on friday. He has been through a lot, tumors, surgeries, etc.., even FCE which left him partially paralyzed in one rear leg and about 80% in the other, with poop randomly coming out because of it.

Just have a plan put together for when it does come time. No need to put him down, unless he is really suffering or has given up eating and drinking

What the frick is wrong with you people? No way I could shoot my dog in the head to ends its life.

Would you really rather do that than have them humanely put down at the vet? Is "putting them down at home" really worth the life long memories of literally shooting your own dog in the head to end their life?

I'd rather by my hand than a stranger.

Dogs know when it is time. My last dog couldn't stand on his own. Congestive heart failure. The day of, I dug the hole and laid a blanket next to it. Walked onto the back porch, stood him up, and he walked on his own through the house. Stumbled/fell down the front steps. Across the yard to where the blanket was and laid down. He knew it was time, and I knew I had been selfish waiting as long as I did.

There's a respect to it.

Villify me if you will. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, but in many ways it was the kindest. He was my pal, he was with me for 9 years and left across my feet most night. He went to 40 plus states with me. He was born the day I met my wife. The least I could do is make sure he died at home laying outside vs laying on a stainless steel grate.
