Looks like the original bolt wasn't fine after all.

I'm not sold on the replacement working. I'll believe it when I see it.

Ok, so I wanted to get something a bit more classic looking...

ended up buying this.

Far as I can see, should just need a lower, and then go from there. You guys seeing anything missing here?

I'd sure get some extra springs, might avoid some frustration.

In honor of the assault weapons ban passing the house I decided to get a 2nd AR to complement the M&P Sport II. Got an Aero Gen 2 stripped lower and the PSA midlength MOE rifle kit. Will stick a carry handle on the Sport II and move the red dot to the PSA. Any advice on first build? What minimum tools will I need?

Most handguards now come with a wrench for the barrel nut.

You will want a torque wrench.
Punch set
roll pin punch set
castle nut wrench

This is not needed but will save yourself a major headache.
Wheeler AR Pivot/Roll Pin Install Tool - Delta Series

I feel like I'm missing some stuff but I assume you have a hammer and allen wrench set.

ETA:

this is the best upper vise block I've seen. It's not necessary, but makes this much easier:

Get a Vltor A5 buffer system. Uses a longer 7 position tube, H2 longer buffer and an appropriate spring.

It will drop your empties in a coffee can at 4 o'clock. Several mfgs offer it as stock equip.

Punch set, you'll need it for the roll pins.

Great, thanks. I've already got a Wheeler torque wrench, so I'll order a castle nut wrench and a Wheeler roll pin punch set. I think the upper comes complete but I'll check the vice block if it's not.

Brownells

speaking of brownells, get their bolt catch pin punch. it helps from marring up your receiver.

Does STAG make a good AR-15? Got plenty of guns, but never owned an AR. Not really my thing. But at this point I guess I need to get one. Guy around here carries Stags. Looking at this one in 5.56

I've heard they're decent guns. Although, they did get in some trouble with the ATF a while back. Not sure how that affected things. How much are they asking for it?

Little over $1,000. Which is what I'm seeing the gun priced at online...

If you want to buy a lower and build it yourself PSA is running a special on their premium 20" rifle kit - $599. FN hammer forged barrel: LINK

Faxon barrel. Go with gunner profile. Great barrels. 16” or the 14.5” with pin and weld.
