Good gun. Not a terrible price...considering. Yes, 556 chambered rifles can handle 223, but those specifically noted as 223 aren’t rated for 556

Do t manufacturers even still make .223 only barrels anymore?

I've never had time with one, so I can't give you my opinion on it.

Is $730 a good or terrible price?
Frankly, "in stock" is a good price these days. I would look for a better price before, but this isn't before anymore.

And it says it’s a 5.56 but under ammo it says .223, it can do both safely right?
5.56 and .223 are so close in dimensions (there are differences, though) that either bullet will chamber and fire from either chamber. 5.56 operates at a higher pressure than .223, so 5.56 chambers are built to withstand higher pressures than .223 chambers. So, either bullet is safe to fire from a 5.56 chamber, but the 5.56 bullet may be unsafe to fire from a .223 chamber. There is also .223 Wylde that is built for .223 dimensions, but is also built to handle 5.56 pressures and can safely fire either round. If the barrel is marked just ".223", the safe route is to never chamber 5.56 rounds in it. If it's marked "5.56" or ".223 Wylde", either round is fine and you can safely fire whichever of the two you can get your hands on.

It's a fine rifle, but I'd suggest getting the $499 AR listed in another thread instead.

Unless radical improved the qc, id probably never buy one. Or at the very least buy and tear it down and put it back together right.

Much cheaper, free floating barrel, and better handguard for starters.

It's a great entry level rifle that will eat anything you feed it and do 99% of what anyone would ever realistically ask an AR to do. $730 is an ok price in today's environment - represents about a $200-$250 premium relative to what they were selling for pre-COVID. I picked up the Magpul handguard version for $500 back in March.

LVPO - Low variable power optic

1-4x28 1-6x28 or whatever you wish along those lines.

Way better than a fixed 3x.

so 5.56 chambers are built to withstand higher pressures than .223 chambers.

5.56 NATO chambers have a little more free-bore and leade, meaning the bullet travels a little further before engaging the rifling which prevents a pressure spike. Also aids in chambering and extraction under harsh conditions. The chambers themselves aren't really stronger, it's more about reliability and preventing a case rupture or stuck case. Wylde chambers have the leade of NATO-spec but the freebore length of a SAAMI-spec .223 Rem chamber. Supposedly you'd have the best of both worlds but I don't think there are practical advantages compared to an number of other things involved.

I didn't know the technical nitty-gritty. Thanks!

anybody got a Stern Defense 9mm upper? i can get the 8.5" for $458 with tax and shipping. i'm wondering if that's a good deal or not. i really want a 10.5 (in any brand), but everyone seems to be sold out of that length.

yup. i've got a 5.56 upper already. want to swap it out for a 9mm. got the stern defense mag block. now all it needs is an upper. PSA is sold out of 10.5" 9mm uppers along with a bunch of other people. but it would be nice to pair a stern upper with the stern mag block and lower. how much of a difference is the 8.5" vs 10.5" barrels other than 2"?
