I bought that exact model AR week-before-last. It came with an S&W vertical grip/light combo and a carrying case. It's my first AR, too. It is really great for the price. I have since added a muzzle brake and a Bushnell red dot that I had lying around. I'm proud of it.

I posted a pic on Reddit and the fine folks over there called me a "fricking douchebag mall ninja." Gun snobs are weird.

Indeed they are. By all accounts the Sport II is utterly reliable and will out-shoot most owners, especially if you find ammunition it likes. For $500 it's a no-brainer for someone new to the platform like us. I honestly have no real attachment to the AR platform but the value proposition here is almost unbelievable.

I think people have a hard time wrapping their head around the fact that people different interests/needs in firearms.

Not everyone needs/wants "duty grade" stuff. You want to plink, clone, whatever then do what makes you happy.

I only take issue with the "Just as good" crowd. Your personal anecdote of having shot 500 rds through your PSA with no issues doesn't mean its on par with a KAC, LMT, etc.. But even then you just roll your eyes and move on with your life

Got bored and decided to bring this BCM 14.5" middy back from the dead. I probably haven't touched this rifle in 12 years.

What better way to honor it by throwing a centurion C4 on and then molesting it with spray paint

Thanks, the Lighter color is Krylon Ultra-Flat Tan and the darker brown is Aervoe - Field Drab (fantastic color imo)

Reliable is reliable, accurate is accurate, specs are specs. There isn’t much mystery to the AR platform at this point. I have no problem paying for accuracy and to a lesser extent fit & finish, and I have no problem with people paying for a roll mark they like, but a mil spec rifle is a mil spec rifle when it comes to function.

And I say all that as someone thinking about a Larue in .308.

Thinking of building a small 9mm AR as a backpack truck gun. Something in the 3.5-4.5" bbl range.

I have a New Frontier Armory. It uses MP5 mags and it's been great

Make sure you get a Spikes 9mm buffer. I had issues with mine and switched to their STx-9 buffer and it solved my problem.

Here's a pic of my new M&P-15 Sport II. I was called a "mall ninja" for having that vertical foregrip/light combo (which is made by S&W and came with the gun). I'd admittedly never heard the term before, lol.

Just a quick word of warning - if you shoot that on a range, especially an indoor range, the people next to you are going to hate you.
