Now I’m on the hunt for the blackout upper.

I’ve been told (which may be incorrect) that all stripped lowers are sold as pistols.
If you buy a complete AR that’s a rifle, you can not convert to a pistol (unless you do something to notify the ATF?).
If you buy a complete AR as a pistol you can convert to a rifle.
Like I said that may not be right but that’s what I’ve been told.

Got 2 of the stainless barrel 16” uppers at $159 over weekend. Also got the 7.5” bo upper. $419 originally. Got it for $279 I think. I’ll have to look at the receipt. Time to finish a few projects that’s for sure.

When two AR15s really love each other a stork comes and brings them a stripped lower receiver. The stripped lower receiver falls into the ATF types of firearms as a receiver/frame, aka an "other". It is always an "other" until it grows up and becomes something else. A stripped recevier goes into your dealers books as an "other" and is transferred to you as an "other". A dealer cannot take an "other" and log it out to you as a "pistol" or a "rifle". It requires a specific license and a manufacturing process, shown in your books, to transform a gun from one type of firearm into another. It's not as simple as just deciding to mark something as one thing or the other.
So, all stripped receivers are sold as "receivers/frames" AKA "other". Or I should say..if the FFL knows what they're supposed to know then the above applys. If they do not, they will not have a fun audit when their turn comes up.
If you buy a rifle it's history would look like this:
Day 1 receiver pops out of the CNC mill, "other" -> Built into a rifle by manufacturer, "rifle" -> sold to XY Distributors, "rifle" -> sold to AB Dealer, "rifle" -> sold to a customer, "rifle" -> trail ends here.
If you buy a stripped lower its history would look like this:
Day 1, "other", sold to XY Distributors, "other" -> sold to AB Dealer, "other" -> sold to a customer, "other" -> trail ends here.

I need a new rail for a 10.5" SBR.
Whats the new koolaid? Not looking to spend $300.
And I need a barrel, probably 10.5" Faxon since everything else is out of stock. Just a beater gun anyway.

Check out UTG PROs. I think Sig uses them on some of their rifles

I've never gotten anything UTG that wasn't bomb proof.
PSA needs to hurry up with my order.

Aero has a 9" rail for $85.
Midway has a 10.5" stoner barrel for $75.
That might be the ticket.
I do really like the Midwest industries rail with the integrated sling studs.

My new barrel has no dimples on the underside for the gas block. What what are yalls thoughts on a clamp style block?
Posted on 3/18/18 at 8:49 am to 3morereps
Why would no dimples make you want to use a clamp on block? I know they seal better but you run the risk if it not fitting under your handguard.
Posted on 3/18/18 at 9:03 am to lsujunky
I would prefer not to dimple it myself as it is already a very thin, pencil barrel. Think i can run a set screw block on the the barrel without dimpling reliably. I would be worried it would move and turn my rig into a single shot. TiA

The barrel might be a pencil barrel but it’s still .625 or larger at the gas block. All you are doing is making a couple thousands deep dimple like they do at most mfg. and will not effect the integrity of the barrel. But yes a set screw gas block will work without the dimples make sure you use a little purple or blue locktite on the set screws.
I’ve made my own jigs with a cheap chinese gas block off of ebay but I have also used one of these and you can get it off amazon EZ Accuracy GBDT if you decide to make some dimples.

I sent my barrel and gas block off to be drilled and pinned with an instruction to slip the barrel nut on before they pin the block. will i be able to instal the tube into the block without taking it off the barrel. I am thinking i could put the roll pin in while the block is on the barrel with putting the tube in the upper receiver first then putting it into the top of the block.
TIA

okay, I have all the parts for my build, let me know what y'all think:
battlecomp 1.0
bcm low profile pinned gas block
dd lw chf 16'' barrel
midwest industries lw gen 3 rail- mlok
mro w larue mount
dd gas tube
spikes stripped upper
spikes stripped lower
toolcraft nib bcg
cmmg lpk
bcm gunfighter furniture
bcm buffer tube
h buffer
cmc 3.5 single stage trigger
pretty sure that is evrything, i am only waiting for adco to pin the gas block, then gtg.
anyone done business with them? they seem to have a solid reputation online

Looks to be a solid list.
I’m looking to get a bench vice for other reasons but also for messing around with my guns...changing barrels/hand guards. Things like that. Anyone have a recommendation for a good one and some soft rubber grips for it. I’ll be drilling holes in my workbench to mount it so I want to be 1 and done. Don’t really want to drill the holes there but it’s my only spot.
