It just depends on how you intend to proceed. There are only 2 roll pins on the lower - the bolt catch and the trigger guard. The bolt catch was a royal PITA for me. I'm apparently not very good at driving roll pins.
The bolt catch is 3/32". The trigger guard is 1/8". If you're going to use a special pivot pin tool, I don't think you need a separate pin punch for that. The magazine release goes on without a punch.
I didn't use a punch at all for the trigger or hammer pins, but you will need a non-marring hammer for that. If you want to use a punch to hold the hammer or trigger in place while you start the pin from the other side, it is a 5/32", but those aren't roll pins. Those are solid, machined pins.
You don't need any special tools for the extension/buffer tube, except for a way to tighten the castle nut (armorer's wrench or multitool) and stake it (spring-loaded punch, most likely).
So, unless I'm missing something, that's it. 3/32" and 1/8" (and holders, presumably to start them) to drive the actual roll pins and a 5/32" for the trigger and hammer pins (but just to hold the trigger components in place, not to drive). The 1/16" is one of those "nice to have" while working with certain parts of the lower, but I certainly didn't miss it. I didn't even need the 5/32" the way my parts kit and procedure went. Trigger was the second easiest part of the operation (after the pivot pin which is laughably easy with the special Wheeler tool - apparently it is one of the toughest part of the assembly if you're just using tape and punches). Well, to be fair, the magazine release was pretty easy, too. The only things I had bad problems were the bolt catch and the castle nut. Both operator error/inexperience, though. I dinged up the armorer wrench AND the castle nut trying to torque it.
And a non-marring hammer is essential, not optional, IMHO, because of the trigger.
My next build, I'm going to use Knipex pliers to do most of the work on both roll pins and just finish it flush with the correct punch.

Be careful using the 3/32" to drive in the bolt catch roll pin. I have found that if whacked hard enough on a stubborn pin or hole the punch will spread the pin and drive itself into the pin. That's why I only use it when 90% of the pin is already driven in. YMMV, maybe I just need to stop hitting the gym so much.

Yeah, it may be the wrong answer, but I was using the 1/8" for part of it to try to get a little more mass behind it. As it is, both were slipping off.
I'm definitely going with the Knipex for the 95% solution next time, and maybe drive it flush at the end with the punch, per this fat guy's recommendation:
Accent is annoying, but I was sold on the Knipex

So it's just a fancy pair of channel locks? Got it.

Yes. The main deal is that there is no arc in the movement, the straight plane makes it more like a portable vise.

Anyone built an AR-10?
I'm working on one now. Wondering if the barrel should be torqued to the same levels as an AR-15?

I remember hearing about these. They made them look and read like comic books so the young guys in Vietnam would actually read them and process the info in a familiar way (before, they were told it was a maintenance-free weapon).

Yeah. My dad was Army and I was Air Force. I always gave him shite about his manuals needing to have comics in them.

Does anyone have a FAB Defense T-Pod G2 fore grip/bipod? It looks pretty bad arse and gets great reviews. It will swivel and pivot when in bipod mode. I guess I'm trying to justify the $130 for it.

I went down this road early on in my shooting career. Don't do it. The most I would spend on a VFG would be the cost of a tango down. Save the rest for more bullets.

What was it that you didn't like about it?

Grip-pods are annoying imo. It is bulky and has no real benefit over the two concepts separately. Do what Chris said.

Last night I grabbed 20 M2 PMAGs from brownells for $10.99 a piece. Looks like the deal has expired. They still have the 10 pack for $112.93 before shipping.
