Bengals are ruining a potential GOAT with that O-line
Posted by LSUMurse on 2/13/22 at 8:24 pm
I’m tired of seeing Burrow getting his arse handed to him because the Bengals won’t protect our boy. This is as bad as Archie.
Bay Hawk 19' Center Console. The motor is 1998, I forget what year the hull is. It's somewhere around that time.
It seems to be just the top portion around where the bolts go through that seems a little soft. I'm thinking of renting a cherry picker, pull the motor off, and see if it's really soft. The flooring feels good and solid. Though, obviously I'm unsure about the stringers. I might look into repairing it, it's a nice enough boat and I enjoyed it when I used it. I can't decide.

Well, I went and tightened down the bolts holding the motor to the transom and the washers started to sink into the wood. My guess is that means the wood is soft and I have no desire to put too much into it. I'll probably just donate it to Volunteers of America or something. They can at least rebuild the carbs and replace the water pump and have a nice motor and trailer.
Thanks to everyone for their replies.

Sweet, thanks. Here's to hoping.
How would I go about properly checking the transom?
Also, the wood where the door goes to the area under the front deck is completely untouched. Should that inspire hope?

Termites in my boat. Scrap or save?
Posted by LSUMurse on 10/13/20 at 3:20 pm
So, I haven't used my boat in a couple years. Started it up and it runs decent (needs a new water pump and probably the carbs cleaned out). Then I noticed the termites. The back deck over the batteries and the front deck where the trolling motor mounts are just fiberglass now, woods completely gone. The floor seems solid and the transom does, as well (though I don't really know how to check the transom properly).
My question is, is it worth the trouble to replace the eaten wood and hope there's no real important damage, or should I just sell/give it away?

High school party. My buddy and I were going on a beer run. I handed him a string of fireworks and told him to throw them into the crowd as we drive off.
He says "frick yeah!", rolls the window about half way down, lights the string, and goes to throw them out. The strings hits the roof of the car right behind the A-pillar, ricochets into the closed half of the window and lands in his lap.
The last thing I hear before all those babies start to pop is "OH shite!!!!!" After 100 or so explosions and just about as many "frick's" he's sitting there with his jeans torn apart and his inner thighs and nut sack all blown to hell. My ears were ringing and his balls were singing. I asked if he wanted to go home or to the ER, he just wanted to get back to drinking.
We never did make the beer run and he rocked out with his cock out for the rest of the party. Absolutely no shame.

Delacroix Tides

So, now that the closest tides guide point is Shell Beach, what are y'all using for Delacroix tides? I can't seem to get it right from the Shell Beach predictions.
Anyone know of a site that has more locations?

Registering my dad's boat from when he was a kid
Posted by LSUMurse on 5/6/19 at 11:55 pm
So, my dad gave me his boat from when he was a kid. It's an old Delhi Aluminum 12 foot V-hull from the 50's. It still looks great and has no leaks. In the state of Washington, you don't have to register anything under 16 feet, so it's never been registered. It still has the original tag with model and whatnot.
I've heard horror stories about registering boats in this condition in Louisiana, what should I expect? Is it even worth the trouble? I'd like to keep it since it was my dad's boat.

Thanks all for the quick replies. I knew I could count on y’all.
First hunting rifle. Stainless barrel? And caliber question.
Posted by LSUMurse on 11/14/18 at 8:14 am
A buddy of mine has leased some hunting land and invited me to come out.
I'm looking at a Weatherby Vanguard Series 2. So my questions:
Is a stainless steel barrel worth the extra $150? Other than rust prevention, is there any real advantage?
On the new lease, we'll be hunting hogs and deer. A .308 was suggested, however there is a possibility of making an elk hunt in Alaska in a couple years. Would a .308 be ok for elk? Would a 30-06 Springfield be too big for hog? I'd like a rifle capable of killing hog, deer, and elk without taking the chance of making the animal suffer for being too small, while also not destroying the meat by being too big.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Another question: What area do y'all use for the tide guides on LA Sportsman?

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably fish my way as I make my way out to the lake.
Catfish Lake
Posted by LSUMurse on 10/31/18 at 11:49 pm
I’m looking to make a trip to Catfish Lake in my kayak. Are the ponds that are close to the launch used for duck hunting? It’s a quicker trip to the lake going through the ponds than going all the way through the main canals. However, I don’t want to mess up someone’s hunt, or get shot at.
The pic shows the approximate route I would take.

re: People say that Bull Reds aren't good to eat.

I've had it both ways. The one dude's mom cooked until it was one step above mush. I didn't care for that one too much. The other that I had, they said it cooked for thirty minutes, or so, after the fire was turned off. That's the one I was referring to as "slow cooked". Probably not the best phrase to use. That one was quite good.
Now I need to go catch me a bull. Got my mouth waterin'.

Sounds spectacular. Going to have to try that next time.

I agree with Cajun Slick, most people go by length. Personally, I like mine 18-22". If I'm on a good bite and pretty sure I'll catch my limit, I'll get selective. Otherwise, I keep everything (up to the limit) 16-23". I don't like fooling with the big ones much, the meat is tougher and they stink.
I know some people that will slow cook a big red into a Courtbouillon which is friggin' phenomenal when done right. I think the thicker slices of meat help it in that recipe.
