You could using the cheapest parts. Find an $80 lower, $80 stripped upper, $80-100 barrel, $70 Lpk, $80-100 BCG, $30 gas block, cheap tube and rings. Throw on some cheap rails and stock. Be fine for weekend plinking but I wouldn't trust my life to it.
Or
Hold on to your $800 and wait for one of the panic buyers to panic again near christmas and you might luck out like Carson did and end up with an upper end rifle for half price.

Just new to the whole building thing but i've been lurking around and thought i might give it a shot but for my first one i really didn't want to put more than $600 into it. I mean i could always upgrade parts right?

Lots of panic buyers out there that will be selling cheap pretty soon to pay credit cards or keep their wives from leaving them.

You can check out AIM surplus too. If your wanting to build your self, they have complete uppers pop up every couple of weeks.
