Instead of buying everything at once im going to buy parts when I can afford them I can spend $100 right now. What part should I be looking for?

Blemished, stripped upper or lower receiver. Be warned when you buy the lower you have to pay the transfer fee, should be about $25 and shipping. I would purchase my parts in this order

Lower receiver
Lower Parts Kit
Upper Receiver
Bolt Carrier group
Barrel
Gas Block/System
Rails/Handguards
Sights/Optics/accessories.

what's ammo looking like right now between the two? Can you shoot primarily steel through an ar with no bad issues?

You can, but some ARs don't handle steel that well.

I am still shooting surplus steel that I bought after the 2008 election. No idea what 7.62 ammo is going for now. Think I paid around 25 cents a round.

I had 2 5.56 ARs but sold one and my dad has the other. My current AR is a 300BLK and the ammo I shoot through it cost 59 cents a round for plinking or $1 for hunting.

Ak is fun to just bring out to the farm and dick around. The AR is used to to get shite done.

AK = hatchet
AR = scalpel

Okay, what is the difference btwn a stripped lower and just a normal lower. I am finally doing some research on purchasing my lower and i'm having some trouble. What sites have good prices on lowers?

I don't know what you mean by "normal" lower per say, but...

Stripped is just the housing part of the lower. It does not include the Lower Parts Kit (LPK)

What I think you are referring to as "normal" is a lower that comes complete with the LPK and most likely a buffer kit and stock.

Cost effective... Palemetto State Armory

...as stated before.

Okay, I see what your saying. So would it be cheaper to purchase a stripped lower then the LPK or just purchase a complete lower.

You wanting to go the armalite or dpms route? Dpms seems to have more support as far as manufacturers for compatible parts.

It all really depends on what your goal is. There are so many options for AR's. Basically I would first decide if you want to build or not, or if you just simply want a rifle no matter how you acquire it. Me, I like to build shite so I most definitely wanted to make my own. This alone would greatly reduce your options, because you would only be looking for completed rifles or complete lowers/uppers to match up yourself.

Agree. Now that I've built my own, I probably wouldn't buy complete.
