I would stay in cash and be patient. Way the economy is going you should be able to make a pretty good deal on one by the end of the year

I suggest that you stay patient with cash,,, rising interest rates and high gas prices will be a windfall for some folks.
I’m not wishing it on anyone but that’s just the reality.
As for the boat a 22 will fish everything a 24 will, the size of the boat don’t change the fact that all the fish are in one spot and people think if they get a 24-26 that they then can fish a family of four and a few friends.
200-225 hp all composite hull with stainless steel fittings and hardware and a sprayed interior deck that can then be re gelcoated or sea-dek is what your looking for

Unless things have dramatically changed, you should be able to pick up a good used boat for 40K. I picked up a 24' Blue Wave Pure Bay for 35K a few years back. The key is to be patient and wait for what you are looking for. When I decided to start looking, I waited almost a year to get what I wanted at my price.

Know a guy who just posted his boat + Trailer for sale (it’s in the Hitchcock TX area)

$44K - 2007 Everglades 243, 2015 Suzuki 300 with 900 hours. Not sure if this is a good deal, as that’s a lot of hours, comps out pretty damn well vs BoatTrader, but it’s a clean looking boat.

Agree with Ole boy, 21-24 foot deep or modified V center console with Zuke, Yamaha or Merc 200-250hp 4 stroke under 8 years old with good compression is what you want. You could have got that easy pre covid.

look and be ready to pouch, I bought three boats early covid to end up with 1, but enjoy what you have because it’s a freakin mess right now

I was looking but needed up reporting instead. Older 22-24’ bay boats are being listed at 40k+. Older meaning early 2000s. Every once in a while a good deal would pop up and be gone quickly. Florida is higher priced than Texas. Louisiana and Mississippi in between there. Good luck

Sidetrack- What brand 115 you got? What sort of numbers do you see? New motor is a Merc 115 and I’m trying to figure out if I need to try out some different props

Like I said earlier. I think we are about to have another 08 in the economy if that’s the case you are going to see a flood of toys being put on the market to pay people’s bills or just to get out of the note. Used boat prices are going to fall closer to reality. No way a 20 year old boat is worth the 30k they are asking for them

Full context:

I have a 2006 Merc 115 4stroke with a 14p stainless steel prop pushing a 2007 SeaPro SV1900.

I don't ever run it wide open throttle, i stop pushing it around 5,800 RPMs. That gets me to 32mph fully loaded down (wife, 2 kids, dog, ice chest). By myself, around 35.

The mph is by GPS, but at least partly, I don't trust the tach, but its likely pretty accurate. I actually ordered a vesselview mobile to hook up and get some straight front he source info. I have NO idea how many hours my engine has on it....I almost don't want to.

I think you're absolutely right....

I'll likely sink a few bucks into upgrading mine over the next couple months. I have a cooler seat that I think I'd like to replace with a leaning post. AND...my front depth finder went out last year, I could certainly justify replacing the one at the console with something a little fancier and moving that one to the front.
