New Truck Opinions

Ok guys. It’s that time again. I need some new wheels and I wanted to get first band opinions on a couple of models of truck.
I am looking for three things out of a truck.
1. The right price. I am not a frequent poster to the OT so I have no issues saying that I am on a budget. I would like to keep the final price under 35k.
2. Crew cab. Cabin space is very important for me with children. I can go to quad if necessary but I really would like crew.
3. I don’t want rims that look like they are made of tractor rims. I am fine with 17” alloy but I would prefer to avoid the rims that look like something that is a spare tire.
My initial digging has brought me to Chevy Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500. I have found vehicles in both that meet my criteria. Do any of you have any pointers on engine size? Accessory packages? Good deals? How do they ride?
Am I missing another brand or make that deserves discussion? GMC, Ford, and Toyota appears to be quite a I out of my price range. Am I missing something?
This will be a highway truck for the moth part. I need to go into dry fields on occaision and I haul large items on a regular basis. I do not need to tow anything other than a very infrequent small trailer with a lawnmower type load.
Thanks ahead of time for any input.

2. Crew cab
You are finding a brand new GM full sized truck with a crew cab for under $35,000?
$37,000

There are a couple of them out there, yes. I don’t need frills. I don’t need parking sensors and fancy radio and navigation. I don’t need bed liners and power rear windows etc. I am looking to save a few thousand by not getting those things. Those trucks are kinda rare but they are out there.

I see a bunch of Double cabs under $35,000. Are you against going certified used with under 15,000 miles to get more bang for your buck?

Delete Truck Nutz and save big $$$$.
Would look up the package codes for each mfg and go from there. IMO, used isn't an option in today's environment with 0% and warranty you give up.

You can get crew cab Sierra SLEs new for under $35k pretty easily.
ETA: This is for 2wd, but it seems that OP doesn't need 4wd.

You will be able to get a Ford, Chevy or Dodge cheaper than a Toyota. Depends on how long you plan to keep it.

Just got a 4 door 2018 titan 4x4 sv with 18k miles from Hertz for 26k. 100k mile warranty.

If you keep vehicles for many years, 10+, it’s hard to top a Tundra for long-term reliability.

Play the rebates right. I bought a GMC Sierra slt premium (not premium plus) for 39.5 out the door. It was a 2018 back in December. I saw that they had a similar rebate on 2019 just recently. If buying gm I wouldn’t buy a truck until the rebates are in the 14k range.
It has leather crew cab short bed bed liner real center console good Bose speaker system V8 and 4x4.
Without 4x4 the truck could have been 35.5

A 2wd truck is effectively pointless for anything other than mail delivery and even that is iffy.

I recently purchased a new 2019 Toyota Tundra SR Double Cab, 4x4, Work Truck package (rubber floors), and spray in bed liner for about 5k less than what you are wanting to keep your price under.
Like you, I wanted a pretty bare bones truck. I have a vehicle for work that is a bare bones F150 (probably a 2013 era truck) and my Tundra is much more comfortable and "nicer" than the F150. My truck I got rid of was a 2004 Toyota Tundra SR5 (the nicer trim than the SR), and my new truck is "nicer" than the old SR5 was. Vehicle interiors seem to have come a long way since my dad purchased that old Tundra in '04.
I don't have kids, but I believe the backseat is pretty roomy and I don't regret not getting the full 4-door cab. The price difference between the 4-door SR5 and the double cab SR wasn't justifiable for my situation.
My rims don't look like a spare tire rim, but they are nothing fancy. The gas mileage is not great, but for the price I got my truck vs. the cost of some of the other vehicles I looked at (mainly Ford), I would have to drive a lot of miles to even come close to burning the price difference between the trucks in fuel costs.

Which is crazy because Toyota hasn't updated the Tundra in close to 10 years

quote:toyota does that with all of their vehicles. They know the game. Other manufacturers update their lineups way more frequently leaving vehicle owners who just purchased their vehicles a few years ago with buyers remorse because of their now almost new vehicle looking and seeming old because of the new lineups. That and dependability is the reason Toyota has been on top of the resale market for decades.

Good for me then if it helped me get a better price on the truck.

As of a year ago Ford had the best pricing for comparable model trucks.
Right now isnt the best time to buy but it isnt the worst either. Start negotiating now and be patient and you should be able to get a damn good deal if you hold out a month or so.
It's a good time in the market, they are all putting out a great product right now. Just buy the one you like the most and gives you the best deal.
