New Truck Advice

Looking to get a new truck in next few months. I'm considering the Tacoma, Tundra, or F150. I don't have a boat, ATVs, or a trailer. I'll accept serious and smart arse, I mean typical, comments from you baws.

it will mainly just be my new vehicle. Besides the obvious uses a truck has- throwing sh*t in the back, hauling lumber or materials for house projects, sitting on the tailgate drinking a beverage- nothing specific. I don't think I'll need a 4x4 package. For the most part it will be driven in the city/interstate.

I'll always recommend a Yota, I've owned both the Tacoma and Tundra, both exceptional trucks.

Whatever truck you decide to get make sure you do research on invoice pricing. I just picked up a new Tundra for ~$7500 off sticker and just above invoice. Also be prepared to walk away if you don't get the numbers you want (assuming they are reasonable). My wife and I actually left the dealership when they low balled us on our trade-in. Dealership called back the next day and offered us exactly what we wanted and after getting it in writing we went back to sign the papers.

where would one go to research invoice price? I will have NO problem walking away. At the end of the day they need my business more than I need their truck. I'm not expecting much on trade in value, but won't settle for a low ball figure, just realistic.

I've had 2 of the 3...F150 and Tacoma. First ask yourself if you want a lot of space on the inside and do you plan on hauling anything large. If so, eliminate the Tacoma.
Can't personally speak on the Tundra, BUT from having a Toyota (Tacoma) in the past and currently having an F150...this one is EASY out of the F150 and Tundra. Pick the Tundra and don't look back! Toyota trucks are just so fricken solid.
Also, the Tacoma is MUCH easier to park lol!

Tundra. Get the 38 gallon gas tank. You can add factory leather to any tundra at the dealership. I added leather to a tss sr5 for 1k and had them add a 2.5" front lift.
That truck was hit head on by a drunk driver driving 80+ mph while I was at a stop light. She spun the truck 180 and I walked way with fractured sternum (it sucked) from the seat belt.
The misses was so impressed she gave me no option but to buy another. I bought a 17 TRD Pro.

I'm in the same boat, deciding between Tacoma and tundra. The only thing I tow is a 16c duck boat. I'm tall, and have two kids in cars eats, so I'm worried about comfort in the Tacoma on longer trips. We have a minivan too, so for the most part, the truck won't be driven longer than about 2 hrs. And parking closer to building and such would be a huge benefit with having the 2 babies...

I'm obsessed with resale value for some reason. All three of your choices are excellent in that regard. I'd get 4x4 to make it easier to sell, and because it looks cooler and because one time you might need it. But I'm a sucker for 4x4. In the Taco, make sure to get the V6 - the 4 cyl will make you sad. I love Tacomas but it's such a short jump, price-wise, to the F-150 XLT that I just couldn't do it.
On the F-150 you'll lose sleep choosing engines. The 3.5EB does 0-60 in 6 seconds - but they're tough to find these days, as most dealer lots are up to their asses in 2.7EBs, unless you spring for the higher trim Lariats etc. The 5.0 v8 is also fantastic. You can't really go wrong with any of the three, but the 2.7L isn't winning any burnout competitions.
The Tundra is a ten year old design. I can't get over that, so I personally wouldn't consider one. Also gets abysmal fuel economy.

Tundra double cab has plenty of room for car seats in the back. I wanted a longer bed instead of the crewmax cabin.
Guzzles gas like a frat boy on Natty Light.
Had a '84 Yota 4x4 in high school (mid-90s), COULD NOT tear it up, and we tried
5.7 V8 is pure power. so much torque that I can spin out without trying on wet pavement when the light turns green
there's a lot of threads on the OB that discusses F-150 timing chain issues @ around 70k-80k miles.
ETA: we use my wife's SUV for road trips so the MPG doesnt affect me too bad ....until hunting season gets here I guess...

Who buys a truck for fuel economy. If you wanted fuel economy, buy a fricking Prius.
I do hear you on the 10 year old design. I have a '14 Tundra and rolled 100K a few months ago. Kinda got the new truck whisper now in my ear but would love to see a new Tundra design rolled out before I pull that trigger.

Tundra will be the most reliable, but also the most expensive.
F150 will have have steep discounts. All depends on your budget to me. The F150 will be quite a bit cheaper.

Don't even consider the Tacoma if you have kids. I was looking at it really hard until we opened the back door. While there is room to sit there is no leg room.
I went with a '17 Crewmax SR5 4x4 instead. By the time you factor in the rebates on a Tundra it is almost the same price as a Tacoma.

I have a tundra, had 2 Tacomas.
I heard from one person that he had problems with his 2016 Tacoma tranny (I haven't looked this up online to see if it's a thing).
I think both are great and if a Tacoma has enough space, I'd look at that. I have a 100 kids so have the tundra.

Ha! Whatever you have to tell yourself to stay happy with your ancient-arse engine. All other full-size trucks can do everything a Tundra does AND get ~25% farther on the same amount of gas.
