Oh man a whopping 7-8 years.
What’s that supposed to mean? I drove dodge’s for 17 years before that.
If ford isn’t willing to deal off MSRP and their prices are 15k higher for a similar truck then it’s not worth it.

Your thoughts on diesels???
Generally not a fan except for certain applications. As your buddy said, initial cost, maintenance costs and repair costs are all high as hell.
I am however a proponent of half ton trucks with small diesels, and if I were shopping half tons the chevy/duramax combo would probably pique my interest. If you can stomach the cost, they are definitely far cooler than a gas burner.

Allison transmission
I don't know why I can never let this go, maybe because GM pulled the wool over so many peoples eyes, but, the only way you're getting an Allison transmission is in a medium duty truck.
GM has been building the "Allison" in house since about 2020 with Allison 'verifying it' so it can wear their name

Tundra, they've had problem with the new engine, but the new design is sexy
This is hands down the ugliest truck ever made.
It’s not m opinion. It’s a fact. Add in the self destructing engines, and there’s exactly zero reason to buy a tundra.

Im test driving the Chevy duramax tomorrow.
I said $51,000....but the link shows more discounts and a "request price" button.
Im hoping that means somerthing in the $40,000's range!!!

Also, a Ford F150 update.
I found a used 2023 XLT with 3100 miles on it for $47000. Wayyyyyy more affordable.

A Naturally Aspirated, non-boosted engine offers less points of failure and lower long-term maintenance. The Ford F-150 5.0L Lariat with the Max Trailer Tow package includes a larger fuel tank + 3.73 gear ratio. Also, consider the 502A package as well.
Yeah, so I can’t argue with this. I have a 2019 with 284,000 miles on it. Will trade at the end of the year, so it will have like 325k by then.
For a farmer, I’m not too hard on a truck, but I do obviously put a lot of miles on them… I mean I drive fast and am off road A LOT, but I don’t do dumb shite.
Just service it at the service intervals, and you won’t have any major issues.
Will say, definitely look at the Lariat package. I have friends and my brother who have XLT’s in similar environments and they always have knick knack shite going wrong with them.

6.2s and 5.3s have issues, and i belive the recall is expanding.
OP, right now with Stellantis having issues, I'd avoid Ram.
The Ford with the 5.0, since GM is struggling, is what I'd say is best in class.

Just bought a 25 Sierra 1500 crew cab with 6.5’ bed. Had to fly to St. Louis to get the 6.5’ bed but the 5.5’ beds bugs me.
Got the duramax with the max tow package with the 3.73 gears. Even with the higher gears I average 25.5 mpg (hand calced) in the drive home doing mostly 75.
So far the driving characteristics of the diesel are everything I was hoping for. Granted my only experience is with the max tow gearing.
I gotta say the payload and conventional rating on these trucks is pretty impressive nowadays. Sticker in my door is 12.9k lbs towing and 1646 payload. I know it would likely run out of hitch weight well before you ever got to towing something almost 13k but still impressive.

I have a 2020 GMC AT4, 5.3 and with the exception of "technology issues"
I love it. By "technology issues" they had to replace the infotainment system bc of the pro-trailering option but it's good to go right now. Had an issue with the truck just not starting and they chased the issue down to the door switch; also good to go now. There is so much technology stuffed into these trucks that sometimes the truck's computer or different option(s) become overwhelmed.
This is my 3rd Sierra and 3rd 5.3 and am happy. Tows great, really comfy and I get 22/23 on the highway when not towing.

Chevy 1500 duramax
Up til a couple of weeks ago I would say I love mine and no issues.
2022 with 62k miles. Started with a check engine light and reduced power light. Been to the dealership 5 times now and they have replaced the coolant control valve but that hasn’t fixed it. They have updated the ECM and still don’t know what it is.
As I drove to work this morning i thought about parking it in the pond at our office.
Also during the freeze it got stuck in 4x4 and the parking brake would not release a quick google says it’s common if left in 4-4 in the cold so did a battery reset and it fixed it.
Hoping things change but I hate it right now.

Engine problems
Yep. 2017 F150 FX4 5.0 owner, bought new. The truck now has 148K miles. I've had a time with it. When the truck was 2 - 3 yr old with 75K miles it started stalling at stops coming off long drives. It would start right back up and was intermittent. Very odd. Over time it got worse and more consistent. I started researching the problem. The F150 message boards are full of guys with this problem. Everybody was trying to figure out the issue. Bad gas, dirty oil, EGR, PCV, spark plugs, etc. Some went and forked out 3-4K at the dealer and as soon as they drove off the lot it would stall. Some had Ford buy back the truck. Some got theirs lemon lawed. Some traded theirs back in. This was on F150s from 2014 all the way up to the 20s. Not sure if the problem has been resolved in the new model. A dealer wanted 4K to repair mine. New cam phasers, timing chain, VVT solenoids. I ended up replacing the solenoids myself last month. So far so good.

You can get a Ram 2500 Tradesman with 6.4 Hemi for cheaper than a 1500 if you want capability and reliability without cool factor.

Buy a pre-Covid Tundra. 5.7L V8, 4x4.
Keep it until 250-300k miles.

Man new trucks/SUVS with all this AFM/DFM bullshite is ruining them.
That Chevy 5.3 and 6.2 have been around a long time and very reliable then government mandates force them to add the cylinder management shite that tears their previous reliable engines to shreds.
A shame really because the new GMC AT4’s are the best looking trucks out there.
