New Orleans bass fishing

Hey guys, I just moved to NOLA and i'm living in the CBD. I've got a rod with me and was looking to do some easy bass fishing between work shifts and after classes.
Any advice on places to hit up? I've heard City Park and Bayou St John. Any particular places within the park or bayou that are accessible and you've had luck with? Or any other spots around the city worth checking out?

Been a while since I've fished City Park, but when I did, I found fish under many of the bridges that cross the water. I'd toss a plastic worm under the bridges as far as I could and just slowly retrieve it with some popping action to make it come up and then dive.
But, like I said, it's been a while, so no telling how the trend is now. I do know for the annual City Park Bass Fishing Rodeo they do turn in some nice fish every year.

First off, there are no such thing as a bass in New Orleans. They are called Green Trout.
Old school here.
Yes, City Park is loaded with bass. Check the regulations to fish there. Bayou St John too!

Please bring your concealed carry weapon with you while fishing in city park.

Have you ever been to City Park?
NOLA is full of horrible areas where you'd be right to feel unsafe, but City Park during fishing hours isn't one of them.

So true. I checked out a few videos on u-tube last night about fishing City Park and one young man caught a bass 9.31 lbs. on an official scale. He returned it to the lagoon.
He was also talking about cichlids that have really taken to the lagoons. They also talked about the abundance of perch in them too.

Yeah, it is really entertaining fishing the park. Very kid friendly too, my almost 5 year old son loves it. It's really gotten him into fishing.

Saw a guy heading into the park this morning with a fly rod as I was driving past on City Park Ave.

I was surprised at how accessible it is. Easy to walk around most spots. Depending on time of year may be tough to find open bank without weeds. Have never felt unsafe.

A friend of mine, now deceased, use to fish the lagoons of City Park at least 2-3 times a week. He was mostly a catch and release guy, but he would take one or two home from time to time for dinner.
The guy was a diabetic and lost a leg up to the knee because of an infection that just wouldn't go away. That didn't stop him from going out to the park to wet a line, though not as often as he once did. He had no issues getting to his fishing holes.

Look up M. Hood Fishing on YouTube. He does a lot of fishing in that area, mostly a whatever bites kind of guy but occasionally targets Bass.

As a very young kid, I grew up there and learn to fish there. We had family get together's every weekend.
That was back in the 1960's.

I've caught a lot of fish off of the bridge I posted earlier in this thread. Went there specifically b/c I couldn't find a spot without a lot of weeds.

My fishing was mostly in Audubon Park back then. My dad died when I was just 8 years old and we'd spend a good bit of the summer months at my aunt's house on Magazine St. near Napoleon Ave.
I'd catch a bus to the park and fish those lagoons catching mostly perch. My aunt was nice enough to cook whatever I brought back to the house.

City Park lagoons, Pontchartrain Park lagoons, Lake Bullard, Bayou Savage (technically New Orleans), Highway 11 between Irish Bayou and Chef Menteur Highway.
