Oh yes no doubt and all the while Sig will be having a hard time figuring out where to stack all that fresh ripe tender government cash

Why do they need a new machine gun? 20 years in Afghanistan and we are still fighting goat herders.....use the .308

I get the desire for a change. Our guys are using olddddddd stuff. I just don't like this thing. It looks like 10 cents of improvement for 20 dollars. I'm sure it'll be a lights out performer but there are probably 100 commercial cartridges out there based on the .308 that would nip all over the heels of this thing, pick one.

It's crazy how much of the US military small arms market Sig is getting/potentially getting.

They're even winning optics contracts. Sig has been in the optics business for less than a decade now. They built a factory in Oregon to handle all of the military contracts.

The Sig Tango actually passed SOCOM tests. It's like a $400 scope and it's competing with $1000+ Leupolds and Night Forces. Good for them. They have a huge ammo factory in Arkansas. I figure thats where much of that 6.8 will be made.
Damn shame that stuff has disaster written all over it, though. Theres now way in hell I want my ammo casing to be made from 2 pieces of metal fastened together with some kind of clip system.

Basically what Colt could have been if their ownership wasn't retarded.

There was a guy that owned a gunshop on James Island years ago that had a patent (I think) on a case exactly like this. Stainless rim and brass case. He said it was his design, but I don’t know about all that.
They were ridiculously expensive from what I remember.

The SIG Tango 6T is around $1400 bucks. The mount is probably a couple of hundred dollars more. I have not seen one but reviews are very good. The eye relief is much better than an acog and more magnification. It does use batteries and that is its main weakness in my opinion.

Why not just adopt the 6.5 Grendel?
I am a grendel fan. The smart choice is the grendel. The ultimate choice will cost us $500 billion in r&d.
I couldn't imagine it would be SO HARD for the military to go mission specific on their rifles. We need longer range with kenotic energy? Bring out the AR 10s in the creed. Are we going to face an enemy with common engagements inside of 4-500 yards...maybe the grendel would be better. We've been trending towards highly adaptive warfare for a while now. Why not just standardize our military towards adaptation. Plus, that AR platform can provide extreme commonality for the variety of cartridges used. Now, training the avg pvt in the differences in those cartridges may be fun.

The main criterias for the new rifle are to reduce weight both with the rifle and ammo and to engage the enemy at longer distances. The other criteria is to defeat the newest generation of Soviet body armor.
There are untold numbers of current cartridges that fit this profile. In a conversation today with a few friends on this subject everything from 6.5 Swedish to the never produced 280 British developed in the 60s for the fal were brought up that fit the mission.
