New lease

My wife got me on a lease near my house for Christmas owned by her uncle. It's an awesome present, and want to make the most of it next hunting season. I've never deer hunted much growing up, so I've always hunted prepared food plots and such. Can the OB help me make the most of this? I will be "inheriting" 3 or 4 stands from a guy who is getting out of the club and want to shoot some deer next season!

I guess the first thing to to is get out there and get a lay of the land. This spring get out and look for sheds to get a feel and see if the stands are where they should be.

if you can, i would get out there now and do some scouting and put a camera or two out, or even hunt a couple of times if possible. definitely scout after the season closes. scouting during the summer is great, but conditions can be very different during the season.

I've hunted twice on the property and have seen a few does and yearlings. Like I said I don't know much about scouting or picking spots.

Yeah i'm kind of jealous myself.
The camera's are a must for a new hunting area. get two of them and start as soon as you can. As someone already said, make sure the stands are setup where you can see the most and get the best possible shot.

That's really a great gift. Definitely do some scouting in the near future. Try to find natural travel routes between food sources and hunt those. Are all the stands permanent or can you move a climber around? What kind of layout is it (hardwood bottoms or pine)? As someone said earlier, use cameras to determine travel routes and times. It will help you down the road.

When can you get on the place? Do you have access for the rest of the season?
Scouting is just gettin out there and observing trails, scrapes, rubs, sheds, movement and etc.
Cameras help a ton! The more you can put out the better. Put a few piles of corn/rice bran/sweet potatoes out. You wanna put it close to where deer are traveling. Put cameras focused your food and see what comes by.
Go out and sit. See what moves. Also, walk the entire property. Ease through and see what you jump up. I have seen the biggest bucks by doing this.
It's like anything else in life, the more knowledge you have the better the experience.
I can't wait to see pictures!
Congrats on a great wife!!!!!
