Yeah, let that thing have a glitch and runaway at the range. Somethings really don't need electronic bullshite in them.

You still have to pull the trigger

Will I still be able to kill zombies and raiding gangsters after the EMP?

You still have electronics where they don't belong.

That's bad arse. I want it.

Depending on how that's designed, they are toeing a real thin line with ATF.
Our LSU senior engineering design involved electronically firing a rifle for people who are paralyzed.
I contacted the ATF, and their response basically said the only cut and dry legal way to do it is with a bolt action. It is physically impossible to have a fullly automatic weapon through trigger manipulation on a bolt action.
If there is anyway it can be hacked or rewired for full auto, it's constructive possession

Years ago we had an ak sitting on top of a paintball gun lower.
You could hit the trigger faster than the ak could cycle. It was...interesting to see an AK choke.

I agree. My first thought after watching the video is that it seems it would be very easy to program it to do full auto.

Could you imagine the shite show if some cheeto fingered internet operator showed up at the range with one of those things?

Well, I know which project you worked on
ETA: my paintball gun I had when I was a kid had an electronic trigger and sear. Mouse-click trigger pull with about 1/32" travel and infinitely configurable fire modes. I always wondered why real guns didn't have that. It's very simple and cheap to do.

You have to use the magnetic triggers for anything with recoil or it will bumpfire out of control.
180 rounds of paint is funny. 30 rounds of 7.62 is not.

It's sitting in my office right now
Need to dust it off again and shoot it

Seems like it'd be simple to run it through a time delay relay to prevent that.
Either way, I still don't understand why military small arms are fully mechanical. You can eliminate a lot of moving parts with electronics at the expense of having a battery involved.

That's the thing
You can wire around the relay to get full auto.
To easy to manipulate for full auto.
And I can understand not switching military to electronics. Mechanical parts will always be more reliable than electronics in this application. Besides, it ain't broke, why fix it

Agreed.
The vast majority of people who own defensive firearms want that highest attainable level of reliability possible. Adding electronics adds a layer of complexity that no one wants. Would it be cool? Maybe. Would I trust my life to it? Probably not.
EDIT: And after watching the video I don't think I would want my trigger to not have a predictable break. I like knowing when the shot will go off.

Jailbreak your phone, jailbreak your fire stick and now jailbreak your AR. I hope they took out a massive insurance policy with a good bit of money for wrongful death liability and/or ATF litigation, I don't know which direction this is headed, but it ain't gonna be good for the company. Also, I'm sure they have a determination letter from one of the dipshits at the Tech branch not smart enough to mess with the electronics. However, when the masses get a hold and the work around is readily available the "easily convertible" part of that machine gun definition could become a liability for the maker, especially if they installed it, and owner of such a device. Remember the shoe string.

The letter I received from ATF makes it seem pretty clear this isn't legal. I'll try to see if I saved it somewhere
