Yep. PPU .30-06 soft points were 11.99 a box not long ago.

I love my 7-08 but the ammo is hard to find, expensive. Better off looking elsewhere.

I mean, yeah. Unless you shop at places like academy, bass pro, Cabela’s, or online at ammoseek, where you can find hundreds of boxes below $25 all day, every day. So yeah, if you don’t do those things or shop there, it could be hard to find and possibly expensive.

My friends in Texas shot 25-06… virtually no recoil, flat forever, and plenty enough lead for whitetail.

we had 3 deer were shot with a 6.5 and we had to call the dog tracker for each one.

Ain’t the fault of the 6.5, assuming the Creedmoor variety.

Ole boy (the dog tracker) told me 243, 7mmx08 and the 6.5 are the 3 calibers that keep him busy.

My buddy shot a deer at 75 yards with CoreLokt 180grains out of a 300 Win Mag and we tracked it for a mile. The truth is any of those calibers are equally fine for whitetail deer within 250 yards. Using the wrong bullets and hitting in the wrong spot are the problems.

I’ve killed a shitload of deer and hogs with my little 6.5 Grendel (same bullet diameter as Creedmoor and about 200fps slower with same weight bullet) and I’ve never lost one that I shot.

243 Use it, pass it to a child, they out grow it and give to old timmer. Old timmer uses it and passes it to another child, repeat

Stay away from the 6.5 cripple more. Get a .308 or a 270. I have both and I prefer the .308 hands down. Both are bolt guns. Get a threaded barrel and put a muzzle break on it if you need.
This stupid shite again.

quote:

Muzzle velocities for the 120-grain bullets run around 2900 fps, the 130-grain bullets leave the barrel at about 2850 fps, and the 140- through 143-grain bullets run at roughly 2700 fps.

If you're going to bag on it you're going to have to include a boatload of other cartridges as well.

if you can find primers you're going to pay $150/1,000

Primers are way down from the crazy.

A few months ago I bought a case of CCI small pistol for $80/1000

Yeah, I just bought 1000 Rem LR primers for $94 w/ free shipping and no extra hazard fee. Keeping my fingers crossed until I pick them up. I'd been looking for them for close to 3 years. Bought CCI SR primers at Academy during the summer for &80/1000. Powder prices are still pretty crazy, especially Alliant powders, which are also still unavailable.

ETA: Primers bought from Bass Pro and delivered there.

I pick up primers when I see them. I don’t by them all . Just a couple hundred here and there. I got some Federal 210 LRP for 8.99 a 100 last week. They are getting easier to find.

CajunS if you have to worry about the reticle kicking in your eye ? you may only need to get a better scope . older eyes need more eye relief .. the only rifle scope i get close is on an AR varmint rifle that i can watch the impact on target. get a quality 3-9 x 50. I
deer hunt with 6.5 CM ,.308,3006 and 444
i chose according to where i am hunting.
180 Core locks in 06 ... good luck

AR10’s used to be heavy across the board but now many are sub 7 lbs with scope such as those made by Roam, POF and SOLGW.

Also don’t have to load the full 20 rounds when hunting, to save weight

.308 is the easiest ammo to find. 7mm-08 is probably closest to what you're needing though. Either will be fine.

You can also buy 5 rd magazines for an AR 10 for hunting and not have the bulky 20 rd mag sticking out
