Today, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission adopted a notice of intent to modify current crappie regulations on Bayou D’Arbonne Lake in Union Parish near the town of Farmerville.
Passage of this NOI will change the daily take of crappie that measure over 12 inches in length to 7 per person; the total daily take will remain 50 crappie per person. This proposed change is an effort to increase the number of larger crappie in the population. It also has the potential to improve the growth rate of crappie in Bayou D’Arbonne Lake, which was identified as being below average in a recent assessment of the fishery. Improved growth rates could be seen by directing angler harvest to the more abundant smaller size classes of crappie in the lake.
The proposed regulation will be fully evaluated after a minimum of three years to determine if it is achieving desired results.

I think we will start seeing more regs with the popularity of live scopes and brush piles

I have doubts that this proposal actually works.

Me either. Darbonne is a huge lake

There is a very vocal group of perch fishermen that want all kinds of regs put in place though

I'm for it, the best bet would be to lower the limit to 25

I know a couple fisherman that fish brush piles with live scopes on Darbonne. It seems silly as hell and I just don’t get it

It felt like going to the supermarket and buying fish when I went

Should be statewide. I also agree 25 daily would produce faster trophy results.

I grew up fishing D'arbonne and still have a camp on the lake (will retire there), for years and years you could fish all day and maybe see two boats.

The internet and Crappie / Bass Tournaments have turned it commercial

Channel markers extending farther up little Darbonne have brought tournament fishermen into the areas I fish.
More power to them.
However, it takes till Wednesday for things to settle down.
As for white perch size limits, there will be backlash. Also, I wonder if size limits will apply to yoyo's.

When I was a kid, in the 70's summers. my dad, brother and I caught some monsters below the spillway. We had Catalpa worms all the time. We had a tree, and froze them in milk cartons.

The most fish I can remember bringing home was in the low 70's for all three of us. That was one of those days that my brother and I wanted to stay longer, but my dad didn't want to, because he knew we had to clean all of them. We had gotten there around daybreak, and stayed til around 3 p.m.

We'd usually have a few bass & sun fish mixed in with them. Some times we'd only catch eight or 10, but many times, just my dad and I, caught 25-30 total, fishing half the day.

I don't know. I haven't fished it since the 80's. Don't think people did that stuff back then.

- regs on brush piles...

Tis far easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

That being said, I don't think there are any rules.
