I have to start by thanking everyone here on the board for their input to all the threads. I really enjoy reading the posts and I have learned quite a bit about fishing south La. from this board.
In any case I need to tell my sorry arse sob story and get some advice from the folks here so here goes.

I moved to Cut Off, La. from BR back in October of 2007 mainly because of the wonderful fishing down here and it was a fairly easy move since my wife is originally from here. I haven't regretted the move since it worked out to be really wonderful for my career. We built a home on my wife's family property so I now live on about 4 acres of land off of highway 3235. Everything really looked great and I was really enjoying life down the bayou. That is until April of 2016.

In early 2015 began having some weird symptoms when going to the bathroom (TMI incoming) blood, mucus, constant feeling like I had to crap, pain etc. I went to my family doctor who said I was suffering from some inflamed internal hemorrhoids in any case his meds didn't help. and finally in April of 2016 at the ripe old age of 48, I went in for a colonoscopy. As I was struggling to wake up from the procedure the GI doc came in and told me that he removed two polyps that were small and probably nothing but he found a large, nasty looking tumor in my rectum at the rectosigmoid junction that he was pretty sure was malignant. The pathology report a day or so later confirmed his diagnosis and said I had a high grade, poorly differentiated, adenocarcinoma about 6 centimeters from the Anal verge. The GI doc set up appointments for me to see a surgeon and he was upbeat saying that there was plenty of room to remove the tumor and re-connect my colon and rectum without the need for a permanent colostomy. Fast forward a couple of weeks and quite a few Dr. appts and scans later and I was told that my rectal cancer had already spread to my liver and that I had over 20 tumors on both lobes of my liver. I was also told that due to the liver tumors and their number and location, I was inoperable and had about two years to live with treatment. Needless to say that was a shocking diagnosis since other than the relatively mild symptoms I felt great.

The docs began treatment with 28 chemo-radiation treatments over 6 weeks where I wore a chemo pump for 5 days, and had a radiation treatment daily monday-friday. to help relieve the symptom. The radiation treatment worked even though it caused a ton of side effects particularly towards the end. I hate to admit this but there were times during that treatment and shortly afterward where I seriously considered suck starting a 12 gage rather than going to shite and dealing with the excruciating pain that went with it and hung around for hours afterwards. It got really bad. The fricking docs were scared to up my pain meds mainly due to the fricking DEA bullshite so I went through that with nothing more than Tramadol + tylenol. It really sucked.

I lived through that though and despite the pain towards the end, the radiation did what it was supposed to and totally killed the tumor in my rectum so I had no need for surgery (Thank God) After that I started on very aggressive chemotherapy and it caused it's own side effects but at least very little pain. After about 7 months or so of treatment and visits to numerous liver surgeons and after being told over and over that I was and would remain inoperable but the chemo was working and the tumors were shrinking slowly. My oncologist felt that I would be on chemo for life which probably wouldn't be too long. I finally asked for a referral to MD Anderson in Houston went to see them for a 3rd or 4th opinion about my liver.
The oncologist I saw at MDA pretty much parroted what all the other docs had said but he would send my case over to the hepatobiliary team for their assessment. Just before Christmas of 2016 I got a call from an MDA liver surgeon who said that they wanted me to come back for more tests but that he thought that he could perform a two stage resection where they would remove tumors from the left lobe, then two weeks later I would have a portal vein embolization which would force the left lobe to grow much larger than normal and then 4 weeks after that I had the second stage surgery where they removed my entire right lobe and gall bladder. once I recovered from that, a radiologist peformed a couple of microwave ablations to remove a couple of spots that were tiny and really could not be removed during my original surgery. So in about april of 2017 I was considered cancer free because they scans showed no evidence of disease. The docs kept me on a maintenance chemo regiment that was much easier on me but about three months after all my surgeries and procedures I went back to MDA for re-scanning check up and yep, you guessed it, the cancer had returned to my liver. This time there were 5-6 sub-centimeter tumors that had shown up so back to full, aggressive chemo with a change in the primary drug. I stayed on that until October of 2019. On October 4th, 2019 I went back on maintenance chemo and even though I still have side effects this little break should let me regain some strength and stamina along with some weight so when I have to go back on the full chemo I will have a bit more ability to deal with the treatment. That brings me to finally ask for the advice I mentioned in the title.

I am originally from just outside Pascagoula Ms. so I grew up fishing saltwater, brackish water and fresh water so living down here is the some of the best of all fishing worlds in my opinion.

My problem has been that my wife does not like me fishing alone due to all the drugs I have to take and the occasional weak spells that I will have. I have found that when I get ready to go fishing the work I have to do to clean and load the boat, get all my gear ready and get everything all loaded I have little strength left to fish very long, I tried to go earlier this spring (June I think) and only made it to about 10 am due to literally having almost no strength to keep going, in fact, I almost didn't have enough strength to pull in my little 18lb anchor at my last stop.

I was able to make a few trips close to home back around Lake salvadore and clovelly farms but even that left me pretty much wiped out by the end of the trip with nothing left to clean fish, clean boat, etc. once I got home.

My question for the board is simply this, Do you think that I could or should seek to find a fishing buddy or buddies on this board that would be interested in going fishing with me in my boat in return for helping with some of the work and maybe chipping in a bit for gas, beer, bait etc. not really worried about that part though. I need someone to be with me in case I have a medical problem and to help with some of the lifting and work involved with fishing.
If ya'll think it is a crazy idea or a dangerous thing to try please tell me. I just want to be able to go fishing more than I am. I retired a month or so ago and it is killing me that I cannot go and enjoy the best marsh fishing of the year during the next few months.
Sorry for the length of the post but I wanted to fully explain my situation.
Thanks,

Sorry to hear that. A regular fishing buddy is definitely what you need, and you're probably looking in the right place. If I lived closer to the coast, I'd take you up on it.

Good luck - beating cancer and fishing all you can.

LOL, yeah once I got to the end and saw how damn long it was, I was like shite they will never read all of that shite to get to my question. Then I remembered that I was posting on the outdoor board not the OT so ya'll have a more mature attention span LOL.
.

BTW my boat is a 2001 Logic 18.5 foot cool bay with a 150 yammy hammer on it from 2010. Not a cadilac by any means but it is a good and very serviceable boat for bays and marshes. I have been 20 miles out of Fourchon on it but the day was one where you could take a row boat to cuba. I was still nervous as hell and never went that far again but the snapper I caught that day were good LOL

Thanks for the good wishes. To be honest, I probably wont beat this cancer but docs think they can manage it for a good long time. Much better than my original prognosis. The liver surgeries changed a lot even though they didn't get it all.

Sorry to hear about your suffering. I mostly hunt during the winter but wouldn't mind going with you in the spring. I live in Raceland.

Thanks Coot,
I have always enjoyed your posts and did know you lived in Raceland. I know my post made me sound totally feeble and that is not the case, I just wear out quick and there is always the chance of a weak spell or some sudden unforeseen nausea or pain. Hell, weather permitting, I am gonna try to find some trout around catfish lake or sulfur mine hopefully tomorrow by myself.

LSU, I can’t help you as I’m nowhere close to there.

Just wanted to tell you that I’ll say a prayer for you and your family.

I lost my brother last year to colon cancer. I also lost my dad almost 6 years ago to lung cancer.

I’ve been on the front lines of the havoc it reeks.

Take care of yourself and don’t overdo.

I'm in Ouachita Parish so there is nothing I can do except offer prayers.

My Grandfather and Dad's brother died from Colon Cancer and Dad's was caught in time so I am somewhat familiar with the disease. I'm 58 now and have to have screenings every 2 years because of polyps they have found in me.

Good luck sir and we will be saying prayers for you.

Man sorry to hear about all the mess you’ve been through. I work in Lockport and Amelia and usually get off at 10am on fridays. I could do some afternoon trips on friday’s with you if that fits your schedule.

That's kinda understood if someone goes fishing with anyone. Shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck and keep fighting the fight brother

If I was living close, the two of us could make one. I had to give you trips to the coast. Haven't fish in years and was something I lived for.

Do find someone that can help you out to the outdoors and prays sent.

Turned 50 this year. Time to go get the rear end rotation.

2001, keep fighting man. My Mother in law survived stage 4 cancer twice. She's now almost 90. We'll say a prayer for you tonight.

I have a friend that doesn’t post here but fishes a lot down that way Thursday and Fridays. I’m a few hours away. How about I try and set up a trip with the three of us and maybe you and my friend could fish together some?? He has a hell of a set up you wouldn’t even have to use your boat.

Prayers sent

depending on how long you feel you'll have the strength to keep doing it, I would sell the boat and set up a charter once a month and if you get many offers from here you may actually be on the water more than you think

That sounds like a plan. As I said earlier, I am now retired and about the only thing limiting my available time is my treatments, recovering from treatment, and other Dr. Appts. My schedule is really flexible.
Thanks a bunch and if this may really happen, I will need to know how to contact you or you me but that can wait.

To all the other posters who have responded thus far, thank all of you for your kind words and support. I really appreciate all the offers of prayers and encouragement. Fishfighter, I know you are going through your own ordeal but I would love to sneak off for a couple hours with you for a fishing trip. THing is from my house in Cut Off I can be in the water in about 20 minutes, quicker if I want to go to a pay launch LOL.

Just let me know if there’s a Friday afternoon that you’d want to fish. I’ll clean the fish, boat, whatever is needed. Or can pull my boat down to fish.

I live about 12 mins from you, and as long as you know where to go, I'd be happy to tag along and do all of the work. I'm new to the area, and only know the Dularge/Cocodrie area marginally.
