the viper venom was still active in he bloodstream so the antivenin and transfusion saved her life. none of this makes any sense to me but i will take it

How much did this run you?

So how exactly does that work money wise for antivenom on a dog? I ask that because you see copies of people's hospital bills after being treated for venomous snake bites, and the line item on the bill for antivenom alone is in the 80-100k range. I know it depends on how much antivenom is administered, but still. How much does it cost to treat a dog with antivenom?

Let me get this straight...they use human plasma in dogs?

Or do they have doggy plasma centers?

You must really love your dogs. If mine gets hit, she's getting a couple benadryls. And if that doesn't work, it was just her time to go.

Most vets have at least one large dog that acts as a donor

I have never heard of this. I have, however, donated plasma many many times.

Never had a dog need vet care from a snake bite.

Hopefully the are checking for fat poison ingestion.

I had a beagle eat a rat snake and die from heparin OD

Had a dog that I would take in to a vets office to donate blood. My daughter at the time was not a Vet, but worked for them. In turn, they gave free health care, shots, HW meds, ect.
