I would prefer a .30-06 inside of 200 yards.

In the old school ways this was the only caliber they shot them with. None of my rounds tear anything up too much. I also hunt with Berger VLD's. I feel like they leave good entry holes and don't tear up to much meat. If you place the shot where it needs to be then it is going to drop. That's why you only shoot to ranges you are comfortable shooting at.

It is unbearable.

Not arguing that at all. Just like I said it is all about placement. I like the 7mm, I have two. I like my 300 better, which is probably because of the work done to it.

Object in motion tends to stay in motion......

Two objects can't occupy the same space.....

you know, recoil.

Granted, that can be neutralized with a muzzle brake.

I have a 300 WSM with a 22" barrel and that stubby little bitch bites.

We all have our favorites and our reasons that we favor them.

The 6.5 swede is a proven moose killer. The european bastards love it. Theres much more to terminal performance than mass and velocity.

And a good recoil pad.

Recoil with my 300 is not an issue. I have shot 30-06's with more recoil.

Now it is time to buy a bigger rifle for my new excursions.

What type of terrain? How far will your average shot be? Still hunting? Stalking? A lot of hiking involved or not?

Good questions. Where you hunt makes a big difference. .300 win mag is a pretty versatile gun. I know guys who bear hunt with it as well as hunt goats and moose.

Your .270 is adequate for any of the animals you've listed. I've killed each of them and save rare exceptions you will be shooting less than 150 yds

But if your looking for a new gun, here's my list..

.280 nearly the same power as the 7mm Mag with only a fraction of the recoil

.300 WBY/WIN/Short Mags all are good with plenty of power but noticeable recoil

.35 Whelen basically a 30-06 necked up to 35 cal. Shoots well and hits them hard..

300 Win Mag...Ammo is easily found at most stores that carry ammo. Its cheap too.It will kill anything walking on this continent.I have a 300WSM,the only advantage of that gun is the short action if you prefer that. That little booger is bad arse. Its usually bang-flop.
