That I guess it's a permit? Even the bait shop didn't specify!

I admit that I was clearly wrong on the weight though.

Eve try thing about that fish looks to be a pompano. Yellowish color and anal fin

There’s not a pic of the fish hanging from the scale though

I think it's a pompano because the belly is definitely yellow and stretches almost the entire length. The permit has a much smaller area of color. Either way, that's a nice fish!

Agreed. I've seen a few of different species that were probably close, but no one on the boat cared.
Still don't think that applies to the fish in question here.

I held the South Carolina state record for blackfin tuna for about 45 minutes back in 2006. Guy comes in to the certified scale with one a few ounces bigger than mine, his boat was fishing the same hole our boat was fishing. Lots of boats out there that day, everybody slamming them.

The marine biologist I sent pic to thought it was a Pompano but can't confirm anything until Tuesday apparently

Costanza? If so, don't expect much because that motherfricker is a phony.

I've never caught either, but damn it looks like the top picture to me, the pompano.
Based on the tail alone, sure looks like the top pic pompano.

All good. I was busting your balls about the weight, I agree if it was 14 lbs it was extremely unlikely to be a pompano.

I also agree OP is suspect..

How was it caught OP? Off the beach like a pompano?

I don't know anything about them. But I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express. Tail looks like a pompano.

I still don't know what the hell it is.
Color says pompano, but I can't wrap my head around a 14lb pompano. Don't know enough about either to distinguish beyond color.

You ain’t getting answers from Tut

Now that I look at it with the pompano vs permit picture.

The top and bottom fins suggest permit

The tail fin and the yellow belly looks to be a pompano

Sorry just heard its was confirmed at the sealab to be a permit. Man it is really hard to tell the difference between the two. Even the marine biologist I sent pics too were split on it.

Its basically a permit with a Pompano looking head. ??

Anyway he got at at the rigs off DI, I think they travel in schools. So somebody get another one

As I was scrolling through YouTube today , I saw a video in regards to a record Pompano. It was a spear fishing video , I’m not sure if it same fish or not . I tried to link the video earlier and sucked at it but maybe it’s an update in regards to everything .
