Wow. That light is cool. How did you do that?

I came up with it on my own. I've always wanted to build a taliesin lamp (Frank Lloyd Wright designed it), so I incorporated some of that into this. Bought some LED G4 sockets, some bulbs, a switch, and started measuring and making!
I used a rabbet joint on the end piece of the light boxes as well as a mitered spline joint and I used acrylic plastic for the splines. The light from inside the box illuminates the spline and adds some nice detail. The only thing I don't like is the blue light from the button is too bright. I need to reduce the voltage to it to make it dimmer, but I don't feel like taking it down right now. I burnt the wood (slightly) with a torch and then stained it grey and I painted the inside of the boxes a glossy navy blue to match the other colors in his room.
Here's an album to the progress (in no particular order): Lamp Album

I’m undecided on how I want to do the legs on the bench though.
You can do something like this and add some wheels under the feet.

Fine lamp.
Love outside the box projects. You hit a home run there.

Man cave? Sweet looking setup
Well, I guess it's all man cave now since the now ex wife left?
Here is the actual man cave, I really need finished pics.

I got the barn doors on the living room console.

Started on the coffee table, getting good at making a decent top from shite Home Depot wood.

After the coffee table I have an end table, 2 bed side tables, and a dresser left to build. Then I will have built every bit of furniture in my home except for my couches and chairs.

That's awesome.
So do you think that has saved you money over the long run or not? Genuinely asking

I would say probably not but...

I’d guess yes, it had but depends on what you value your time at.
Go price all new sets and see what it costs these days, it’s outrageous

And it is not built well. They use staples and a lot of crap wood. At least you know what you've got. Great job.

Honestly, it's probably a wash. You have some stuff you build that is all 2x lumber and works out super cheap. I built a king size bed frame for under 100,and a baby crib for around 250 because it was a lot of 1x lumber. I'll post pics later of everything I've done since Photobucket kicked it.
But, as said before. You get lifetime furniture out of the deal. I'm 190 and I can jump on my bed, my older daughters bed, and my daughters crib and none of them will squeak much less break.

That's kind of what I figured.
Plus I'm sure you've amassed a solid set of tools that can be used in the future as well.

That's the ticket, and if you enjoy it and have time there is a market for it.
I've sold a 10 foot farmhouse table for $1,200 in the past.

Looks really nice man
Are there not other local lumber yards for wood?
Hate that you got crappy wood from Home Depot

Built this several years ago. Its a king sized bed. The headboard is 80” tall. It was posted in the thread somewhere but not sure if with Imgur.
As to cost, the wood is poplar. It was 4/4 with a single straight line rip
I used mostly hand tools to dimension and plane the lumber. The ship lap and rabbit was made with a trim router all of which I already had.
The only metal is joining the rails with the headboard and footboard.
The wood was about $350.
My wife called the company that made the bed this was designed from. They priced it at $4000 or something like that but it was going to take 9 months. This one took me about 3 weeks working on the weekends.

Bbvdd that thing is gorgeous. Looks similar to ours that is all wood, didn’t cost $4k but enough to make me question it! Did you stain or do anything else to it?
