Got out early this morning and sawed this up.

Sawed it 4/4x 6" wide boards. They will be used as base boards on my guest house build.

Had to call it a day after it was so dam hot.

Stucco dog houses.
Retardedly heavy but they’re neat.

I just finished a walnut table but I can’t seem to post the pics. I hosted them on imgur and then copied the link into to the image option but it doesn’t work.

I looked into them about a year ago and ended up not going through with it. The bare slabs alone were in the $1.5k-4k range depending on type and size of wood.

Add in the labor to sand/finish them and build/buy and construct bases and you're looking at $2.5k-$6k.

All that being said, they're cool as all get-out. I'd love to have one. If we could have found a slab we absolutely loved, we probably would've pulled the trigger.

What kind of wood were you looking at and how big?
I got 2- 2"slabs of sinker cypress for $500. 21-24" wide and 12' long. The slabs are also book matched. I got a few 2"x16" cypress I'll cut up for the trestle. Those were free but maybe $100-125 if I bought the wood for the trestle.

I was looking for slabs appox 3" thick, 36-46" wide by 7'-9' long. Cypress, walnut, pecan, even some oaks I'd consider. I just want good grain and knots. I like character.

Where do you live? I bought mine in Bordelonville. He slabs everything at 2" but I'm sure he wouldn't have a problem milling a 3" slab. He mainly has sinker cypress but I think he still has some 2" walnut slabs. Check out Rustic Living & Cypress on facebook. 36"+ isn't easy to find on one slab. Probably would have to glue two together like I'm doing.

Yeah that's the problem. Big single slabs are very expensive because they're rare.

Thought about that but I didn't like the look. It comes out too symmetrical for what I want.

I live in OKC, but am from BR, married to a gal from Shreveport and my dad's from Avoyelles Parish so I can source from anywhere pretty easily if I found the right piece.

This is the one thing that was the most difficult for me.

Took me around 4.5 months to finish the patio and fireplace.

Just wanted to give you the heads up, Rustic Living & Cypress just posted sinker cotton wood slabs, 30-47" wide, 10' long and 2.5" thick. $250 a slab. May want to look them up on FB.

Sinker cypress is so damn pretty. Playing around with a coconut oil finish.

I actually like the natural look of sinker cypress over being stained.
