Had this place for a long time used to kill a lot of big deer off of it, like 140s and 150s every year

A few years ago a club took it over and they killed like 10 big bucks the first year

Now we dont see any studs anymore, can’t even get a picture of one, only big body deer with shite racks
What the hell happened

I know how you feel man. When we started hunting here about 20 years ago, we had 600 huntable acres. That's down to 250 now...because my landowner thinks it's a good idea to cut ever tree down when it gets the size of my thumb.

Deer don't live in trees, they like cover to hide in

I’m officially in the camp that the either sex days all season is literally killing off the herd. People are not reporting their kills in LA.

Acerage?
How many hunting before the club?
How many hunting now that it’s a club?
Depending on size, what have the neighbors up to.?

Yea know the feeling. The club that had our place would usually kill a 130 every year, maybe 140. Always a 5-8 yr old buck would be killed each year that was 130 max.

Last year before they left they killed 16 bucks on 300 acres. No telling what I’ll have in the next few years.

OP, sounds like you need to step in and stop people from shooting all bucks. You need to limit size and how many bucks are taken every year.

Sounds like the place is being overhunted. Where are you at? What soil type?

If it really is "your" place lay the law down to them, they can abide by your wishes or be gone at seasons end, if it belongs to someone else you need to either learn to deal with it or find somewhere else to hunt.

What happened is the bucks are not living long enough to mature and that is not likely going to change without landowner input and a guiding hand.

Has this problem many years ago and at seasons end I just informed them to make sure they took everything with them, they were shocked I was serious despite me making my wishes very clear upfront.

Yep, only way to deal with it. Used to kill some very nice 130-150 bucks on my place. Word got out and all small land track owners had a shite load of people come in and just about wiped out the deer herd. Between that and the dam pigs, one is lucky to see a deer anymore. LW&F is no help. Just wished they would shut down the season all together for deer for around three years.

Luckily it did not get that bad for me, my land is in a very high population density area with great food and genetics, there was zero need to be shooting 2 year old basket racks, some folks are just assholes.

Seems like you answered your own question?

If by “had this place for a long time” you meant it was family land with low pressure, and by “club took it over” you mean 10 slapdicks and all their immediate relatives and friends started running all over it, then this one is pretty cut and dry.
