It’s a 60volt greenworks
I’m a chainsaw novice.

It’s quiet:
1. Helps with my HOA that has ninjas that hear night time chainsawing
2. I float this in my canoe and use it for large
firewood with fewer people knowing

It’s safer:
1. Don’t need to start it, then bring it up ladder.
2. Just start it where I am start/stop is easy.
3. I don’t haul gas.

It’s easier
1. Pull trigger and go.
2. No gas engine to mess with
3. The 2 amp battery cuts through a 16 inch tree pretty easily.

That’s all I have.

How long would it last if you were cutting up a 16 inch log?

Cant speak on chainsaws but battery tech has came a long way. It will dent the small engine market.

If it has a removable battery like most batt op power tools, where you can keep a couple of batteries charging and swapping out, then that might work.

Usually you're gonna dull the chain before you run out of gas anyhow. So you need to stop and sharpen the chain giving you time to swap batteries.

I think there is a real market for batt op chainsaws if they can get the battery technology up to snuff.

It's there already for chainsaws and weed eaters IMO

I just put the 60v 16in version in my shopping cart at lowes dot com and went to check out and it is not available in store, ship to store, nor ship to me. It's flat-out not available right now from Lowes.

With a 2.5 amp bettery I could cut a lot of 16 inch logs.

99 dollars for chainsaw.

Batteries and charger are high though.

Cost of battery versus people willing to pay that price.

Right now the price is still a little over the threshold that the mass group of consumers are willing to pay versus gas.

In a few years the battery prices will come down, technology will get better, and gas handheld sales will go noticeably down.

I bought a Milwaukee M18 Fuel Chainsaw for use around the house. Mine uses a 16” Oregon bar with an R56 chain. Mainly use it for trimming trees around my pond. Works great for what I do with it. Nice to just go in the garage and grab the saw and not worry about old gas and gunked up carbs. It came with a High Output 12.0 Ah battery.
I have not done any actual testing with it but have read where you could get 100 cuts in 6-inch oak with 2 bars left on the battery.
For general weekend use around the house or camp I think it is perfect.

Lowe’s ran a sale this summer on the craftsman 60v tools. I snagged a chainsaw, blower, weed eater and hedge trimmer. All for around $100 per tool.

I can tell you that I now have no desire to buy a gas powered anything like what I have. Since I have 4 batteries, I could cut continuously all day if I wanted (but I don’t want to).

The chain that came with the saw was shitty, but I replaced it with a better one. It would do what you listed but if you float far you might need more than one battery.

Go buy you a loop of Stihl PS3 chain for it and you can thank me later. It's a full chisel chain for lo pro applications and will cut far faster than the semi chisel chain you're using now.

Yea, I like a semi chisel for around the house. Stays sharper longer and less kickback. That’s a good chain though.

Have a 20amp chainsaw and a 20 amp pole saw. No I’m not cutting 16 inch trees but it takes care of 90% of my needs. It’s also great for hinge cutting.

Looking at getting a hedge trimmer to tackle a 7' tall, 40' long gardenia hedge. My old arse can't handle a heavy duty gas hog.

The market for battery powered yard tools is the 40+ something male market who has discovered that they have tendonitis in their fore-arms (tennis elbow.) Game over once it hits...Just cranking a gasser can put you in a bad way.

TV ad with a middle age balding dude holding a tall-boy in one hand and working a hedge trimmer in the other. Marketing genius.

Probably around 7-10 cuts with that battery but that is not what they are meant for.

For the average homeowner with trim/cleanup requirements they are the way to go and a 20v is more than enough.

If I need to cut up 3 cords of wood the Stihl comes out of retirement.

you better off just getting an electric log splitter, it will make quick work of splitting cord wood and you can use the gas chainsaw (or cordless chainsaw) to cut the logs as you need it

For small jobs or stuff around the yard electric or battery... they always start. Tackle a cord of wood... no thanks. When I use my gas powered chain saw I do everything I can to get fuel out to store it properly. Usually still some work to get it started again. I have a 16” electric that handles 98% of everything I need without frustration.
