It's nothing to do with respect.
I don’t mount things because it makes me feel like an accomplished hunter, or that I’m trying to impress people with what I kill. I have no bearing or control on how many inches of antlers a deer grows, what markings a squirrel had on his face, what color he was, or how long the pheasants tail was.
I mount things because I like the way it looks, and because looking at it takes me back to the time when I was there, especially when given an opportunity to tell the story over again to others.

I’m not trying to impress anyone. I’m the first to admit, I’m not a good hunter. I don’t act like I’m a good hunter. I enjoy time in the woods and get lucky from time to time.

I was under the impression that to file an insurance claim that a police report was preferred, but I could be off on that.
Nah, the police report comes in handy for situations where more than 1 vehicle is involved and drivers aren't telling the exact same story...but no need for a police report on a wreck with a deer.
Probably not a bad idea though to offer the adjuster a piece of backstrap when he's taking a look at the damage.

Habe had a comprehensive claim become a collision because rain washed blood and hair off.

Who runs over a deer and doesn't take a pic from the scene to put on social media nowadays?

Had a friend in a bass boat see a smaller trophy deer swimming in the ouachita. He said it took him 30 minutes of hanging over the side of the boat till he finally drowned him. And then he mounted him.
Wanted to slap him

Pretty sure it's illegal to pick it up. That said, anybody can kill one with a gun. A deer killed via vehicle is a much better story. I'd mount it.
I hit and killed a doe on my motorcycle a few years back. They guys yard that I landed in came out and asked if he could have the deer, I had bigger things to worry about at the moment so I let him keep it

Hit a deer in panhandle of Florida on my way back to DC. There were three trucks lined up to get the deer. Cops had to go and settle the argument over who had first dibs...
