So a buddy of mine is a huge hunter. But coming out of the woods today he hit a nice 10 point on the road.

He is planning to get it mounted. I told him that seems kinda cheapening the sport of hunting. But he obviously disagrees.

What are the OB thoughts on mounting a deer you killed but not exactly the normal way

Pretty sure it's illegal to pick it up. That said, anybody can kill one with a gun. A deer killed via vehicle is a much better story. I'd mount it.

Just don't say how you killed it with your car, and make up an awesome story about how you shot it.

Went to school with a girl that hit a 150” deer. Her dad mounted it on a piece of her front bumper. Still the biggest deer mounted in that house 20 years later

I'd mount just the horns on the plaque with a Chevy bow-tie underneath (or a Ford oval if you're trashy).

Thought most states gave the driver who hit the deer the option to keep it and wardens had to put a special tag on it?

I’d cut the buck’s nuts off and hang em from my trailer hitch receiver

I’d absolutely mount it if it’s a good looking deer, but I wouldn’t “claim it” like I would if I shot it.

I know plenty of people who have hit deer and the police have all said you can take it.

What’s the difference between shoulder mounting the deer and a skull mount. Hitting a wild deer worth mounting isn’t something I am to do, but it’s certainly rarer than shooting a trophy on a high fence place.

Same thing I was gonna say. Nothing wrong with a good skull mount to make a story. Anything more than that is kinda gay

I wouldn't mount it. But then again I didn't mount the 150" I shot a few years ago. Euro mount is classy and timeless IMO.

Shoulder mounts are tacky anywhere but a hunting camp. Also are expensive and don't really age that well.

So you’re against shoulder mounts in general.

Good talk.

I'm kinda heading this same direction. The wife would bitch continuously if i wanted to put a deer head anywhere other than our office. So whats really the point?

Would definitely not shoulder mount. Don't care how big it is. Would probably put horns on a plaque away from the rest of my modest collection. As someone else noted, I'd probably put a chevy bow tie on the plaque.

i've hit 3 of the damn things and never once thought about calling the law. i chunked them into the bed of my truck and cleaned/ate the good parts.
i only seem to hit them when i have a new truck. i can drive for years in my old beater and never sniff a deer crossing the road
