You can’t take a piss without getting a pic of it on trail cameras. Very, very few big cats around, or we’d have pics of them.
I did see one in Colorado this year and saw one in NM about 15 years ago.

True story. I follow a social media page about cats and there are posts all the time.
We have a cat that has been seen several times in my town looking for pets or the resident deer population.
We would be seeing these cats if they are truly around.

My grandfather said he had never seen one but when he was a boy they occasionally could hear them screaming in the night.

False. My wife, a former biologist, and her friend spotted one just south of Hineston. She's seen cougars and bobcats before and knew immediately what it was.
Several of the locals have captured one on their game cam. I've got a bobcat on my property so its definitely not him

You know the rules.
Eta....
Here's a cat in my town that got a raccoon hanging out on someone's hot tub. They had video of it. Cool and scary
No idea if this is the same cat or not.

They have slowly expanded their range back into Louisiana. It pretty much coincides with the range of feral hogs.

I’ve seen several in the Beekman area

I don't think anyone is saying they are common, but there are multiple confirmed sightings in the last 20 years:
Cougar Sightings
But, that statement is exactly what I say all the time about people claiming to see black panthers. Never a shred of evidence to back it up, but plenty of people claim they've seen one.

Tensas WMA has them. Also seen game cam pictures of the around Lincoln and Bienville Parish. Personally heard one in Bryceland La in early 90’s.

My brother-in-law in Ventress swears that he saw one last year behind the False River golf course. He is a seasoned outdoorsman and knows the difference between a cougar and a bob cat. He saw the cat in the late afternoon, plenty of daylight, and not in heavy brush.

Not surprised to see that. Swimming the Mississippi is another matter entirely.

Yes there have been confirmed sightings
Yes they are very rare
I give people the benefit of the doubt when they tell me about a cougar sighting until 1) they tell me they heard one or 2) it was black and I really lose it when they 3) tell me they heard a black one. Didn’t know they sounded different
And every hunter in Louisiana has at most two degrees of separation from someone who claims to have seen a black panther

shite, I know 5 or 6 guys that swear they've seen one. One of them claims to be a biologist, and not a damn one of them has any proof of it, although one claims to have pictures, but won't show them to anyone.

We’re ok private in the middle of Tensas Refuge and run a bunch of cameras. No big cats. Lots of bears, though.

LINK
I suck at this....I think that the game camera photo is in the above link. It was only the article in the link in my prior post.
Since the confirmation, I have received multiple, but unconfirmed, reports of sightings in and around my hometown from reliable sources.
Cougars are around my neck of the woods.

They are as Far East as Tennessee no reason they are not in LA

Isn't there something about state agencies not liking to say/admit to there being a mountain lion population because they would be required to do studies or set up a program for them? i know that is or was the case in michigan
