Residential property, large ditch along edge usually has water in it. I’ve tried spartan mosquito tube thing, not sure it works well. Is there anything that actually kills them enough that I can not get eaten alive in the afternoon?

Spray everything down with permethrin or bifenthrin in a hose end sprayer.

I mean everything. Grass, trees, shrubs, house, etc..

Do that every 2-3 weeks

I'm in DFW and I spray Bifen XTS every 3-4 weeks. It won't get rid of all of them, but it significantly reduces the population.

We are right outside Baton Rouge and use a service called Mosquito Joe. We have two acres and a pond and they were unbearable (I'm allergic) They come a treat every 3 weeks. I can sit outside with no repellent on now. It's even more effective if you can get your neighbors on board too.

this all day. We use TruGreen and rarely see a mosquito.

At the camp on the coast, we had a real bad mosquito problem. sprayed talstar and laid granules and knocked them down quite a bit.

What's the monthly/quarterly cost? I have 3 acres in Rayne that I have considered getting a service for this but according to my 4 daughters, I am a tight wad, and rather handle myself if possible but would consider if reasonable.

I don’t know but a thermacell will keep a billion mosquitos away from you up to about 8 feet. I’ve have them so thick you had to put a cloth over you mouth to breathe. 15 minutes after that thermacell got working not one. I don’t bother spraying anymore nut I do spray Bifen for red ants and that does help some. Plus have two Martin houses.

Treat the ditch/water source, target the larvae.

Use Mosquito Bits or something with the same active ingredient.

quote:

Mosquito Bits® is a highly selective microbial insecticide (BTI) effective against mosquitoes in a variety of habitats. Kills the larvae of mosquitoes that transmit west Nile virus, encephalitis, malaria, and other mosquito diseases. Spread over the surface of water to release the biological mosquito larvicide. This larvicide gradually settles in the water where it is eaten by mosquito larvae growing there. The bits will give a quick kill of existing mosquito larvae within 24 hours. Re-apply every 7 to 14 days for maximum control. Mosquito Bits® are approved for application to areas that contain aquatic life, fish and plants. Bits may also be applied to areas used by or in contact with humans, animals, horses, livestock, pets, birds or wildlife. Apply to standing water found near the home such as water gardens, tree holes, stock tanks, animal watering troughs, rain barrels, bird baths, roof gutters, etc., perfect for areas where standing water cannot easily be controlled such as fallen leaves, swampy areas, and vehicle tracks in turf. Sprinkle over tree holes, pitcher plants, and other areas where small amounts of water turn into mosquito breeding grounds. Will not harm plants, pets, beneficial insects, honeybees, fish or wildlife. Mosquito bits® are also approved and labeled as a biological control for fungus gnat larvae in planters and soils. Kills fungus gnat larvae in soil without synthetic toxins.

Targeting adult mosquitoes isn't very efficient and only lasts so long.

ETA: This product won't harm beneficials, like dragonfly and damselfly larvae, that could also be in the water source. Both of those eat mosquito larvae for a living.

About $80 per visit for mine. It’s expensive, but it’s worth it. Night and day difference.

I just bought Biferin. I apply it with a battery powered two gallon sprayer. You have to soak everything, the eves, furniture, walls, undersides of leaves, grass, fences, etc.

Supposed to apply every three weeks, but a lot of rain will wash it away earlier than that.

Spartan didn't work for me either.

This is key. Even when the bottle says that it lasts 8 weeks. Maybe in Ohio, but not S LA.

I bought the setup that attaches to your blower and blows that shite into the shrubs and trees.

Mosquito Sniper.

Comes in Wednesday .

This video shows it bud also has some good info. If you use the bacteria donuts or granules put them in the shop fridge as they don't last indefinitely

Spray spray spray. Permethrin or bifenthrin. Order online or get concentrate at TSC. I use a 15 gallon sprayer attached to my mower.
If you you’re really serious and have a couple grand, there are high pressure misting systems you can buy that mist pyrethroid insecticides every few hours throughout your entire property. I imagine you can DIY this for maybe $600. Canpump sells an axial cam mist pump for like $150 but it still needs a motor, controls, plumbing, tank, etc. I built a patio mist system for cooling with it and love it(so far).
Patio mist cooling systems also work without insecticides just because they disturb the air. Fans do the same thing. Mosquitos don’t fly too great and prefer calm, wind-screened areas.

I’ve been selling, installing and servicing “ bug machines that spray automatically” since 1995. We put them in barns to control flies also. Recently started doing some fogging.

If y’all want a backpack fogger go buy a 2 1/2 gallon capacity Stihl. You can’t go wrong and will never regret it.
