Having the tail feathers structured like both a hen and drake threw me off.

On second thought after looking at yours more, I believe you have a very old mallard. We have shot some of both at our place in AR. We have an orinthologist for HNIC at the club and he has said that in very old age some mallards will take on the coloration of your bird. Of course you could look up the skirt and see what he/she has to be for sure.

I killed on similar looking to that early in the year, let me look for the pick. I just thought he wasn't in full plumage. Let me find it.

Bird on the far right. Now looking at it, probably just a young bird.

Yankee Mallard came down and performed a legitimate rape of a naive local Summer French, then left her to raise the miscegenated offspring alone. May have used GHB or simply bought her drinks at the Dulac Dat until she fell under his thrall.

Calling Mallard x GWT on DaHammer's top photo. Bottom pic looks like regular old mallard.

If a duck is malnourished or sick, it will not completely molt.

If the wing has a blue speculum (color patch) it is probably one of these. If it has green or chestnut or all white, it is a hybrid.
