To those concerned,

A recent article titled "Opinion: Congress ignores Americans as gun bill fails," written by Parker Cramer, has caught my attention. In the article, there is a jarring amount of fabricated, contrived, and specious information that is indicative of a lack of proper research. Mr. Cramer writes “Even sales conducted over the Internet require no background check at all,” and states that firearm acquisition is made “convenient with at-home delivery.” This is simply not true. Last night, I purchased a new handgun on Gunbroker, an auction site for firearms that is much like Ebay. In winning the auction, I must provide an FFL of my choosing with the seller’s information. The weapon that I won is then shipped to the FFL, where I pick it up and am subjected to a background check. It is literally the exact same process as if I had bought it from the FFL. There is no such thing as a mail-order firearm, unless a buyer and seller agree to circumvent federal and state laws, which rarely, if ever, happens. There is, however, mail-order ammunition.

Later in the article, Mr. Cramer writes that an “overwhelming majority of Americans (as high as 86 percent in some polls)” support background checks. This is also laughably incorrect. The figure of 86% is complete nonsense, and was calculated by left-leaning pollsters with anti-gun agendas. They sampled specific people to achieve their desired results, and then published the results as if they were from a nationwide poll. This may be no fault of the writer, as he may not have known this when he found the aforementioned statistic.

Please publish this so as to show Reveille readers that there was inaccurate information in Mr. Cramer’s article. Hopefully, better research can be done in the future to prevent the spread of erroneous information. I can be contacted at this email address if there are any questions.

Have a great day,

Carson

Im serious. Having actually participated in the transactions and having been a recent graduate maybe you get someone there to listen to what you have to say and undo some of the damage that fool has done.

If you want to know why media in general sux these days, its these college journalism/communications departments. Before I publish an academic paper I have to do due dilligence in research, report and cite my sources. Then it is scrutenized by people who have been in the field way longer than me and sent back for revision or rejected out right. No such controls exist in mainstream journalism today.

They (media/journalists) aren't really held accountable for their actions.

Look at Sandy Hook as a prime example, news outlets everywhere wrongly identified an innocent person as the killer. What happened to any of them? They just came back on air a couple of times and said "oops...sorry, not him."

It must be nice to have a job where you can completely frick up the meat and potatoes of what you do and not have any repercussions.

Well if they frick it up in college, on the practice run, you know damn well they are going to frick it up when it counts. I bet the jackass who wrote the article never even thought to take that little drive down to Mr Jims or BR Police supply and ask them about the process.

He is probably way too terrified to be around that many guns. I mean, guns just jump up and shoot people without provocation right?

Submitted for Comment:
===================

Instead of simply repeating national media, you need to do your own research before writing an article .

1. Craigslist does not allow firearm ads.

2. All internet purchases are shipped to a Federally Firearms Licensee (FFL). The FFL must run a background check before you can take custody of your purchase. The concept of "at-home delivery" is ludicrous.

3. Every gun show purchase I've ever made included a background check. The vendors have a laptop/cel phone and do the verification on the spot.

4. The NRA has strongly promoted the above measures for decades.

There is no excuse for such uninformed and outright irresponsible journalism; it is inflammatory and divisive.

I emailed them. Sad that something like that could get printed. Do they not have any professors or other reasonably intelligent supervision over there?

and craigslist doesn't allow ads for firearms. It's almost like he just started writing and they published whatever ended up between the margins.

This gun thing has been the biggest display of grand-scale passionate ignorance I think I have ever seen. It's like the tiniest bits of research are just way too taxing for the progressive liberal mind.

Did you write the article? You seem to be showing some of the similar characteristics of the writer.
