Eh. That report title seems a little misleading.

quote:

Officials have confirmed the Morganza Spillway may be opened for the third time in its history as early as June 2 due to high water on the Mississippi River.

Actually, the report title is intentionally misleading it seems

And dude did you intentionally remove the word may from what you quoted in the text?

Bull shite, that is how the article was originally written, it has since been changed, see my post on the OT

It is going to open, just has to go through the right channels before they can announce it

In the years to come this will be a more common occurrence as the river continues to silt up.

Yep, think that’s the problem now, worried it’ll overtop the structure.

The 2011 flood brought them to Sherburne from farther north in the spillway.

Don’t think the river is giving them 2 weeks.

I was new to Louisiana in 2011. I get why they are opening it, but for the uneducated, what are the negatives? I guess there are probably tons of camps that will get flooded right? Are there any permanent towns that get flooded? Mess up hunting/fishing? How long does it take to recover?

Lots of farmland in the spillway, those crops will be lost, the farmers know this is a possibility every year, a chance they take, but still a bitch
