I live in La. but have a house and hunting property in Miss. I’m really sick of paying $300+ for an out-of-state license every year to hunt my own property, and now my kid is 16 so that’s gonna be another $300!! Has anyone been able to get around this at all?

When you figure out how, let me know so I can do the same for a LA fishing license.

takes time and work and does come with an element of risk but you asked...

step #1) get LA lifetime hunting / fishing license using current LA driver license
step #2) get MS driver license with MS house address
step #3) get MS lifetime hunting / fishing license

payback / return is over lifetime, no short term payback or cheap option...

Come on. I don’t want to roll without a license altogether, but otherwise I’m willing to fudge the truth a little bit if someone’s got an angle to exploit.

Whatever state you are domiciled in where you get your resident license. If they catch someone fraudulently getting a license it’s a felony.

Been in the same boat. Hunt in Fayette, live right across the river in Vidalia.

Both states need to at least make an exception for those that live within a certain radius of the state. Sick of paying $500/yr

I thought landowners didn’t have to have hunting licenses? That may be residents only.

Your kid will get a reduced rate between 16 and 18

IIRC it wont be but about half...maybe less

No they don’t. That’s how they make most of their money on out of state licenses.

Suck it up. It’s for a good cause. (And I hate taxes and big government-but green jeans is mostly an exception when it comes to government waste.)

Residents only for license exemption on your own property.

Live in LA, have family land in Alcorn county. Never paid for a MS license ever in my life. My grandmother calls the game warden when I hunt up there and tells him he needs to go to the other side of the county.

ETA: it's once a yr @ christmas, I have leases in LA. Don't act like I'm stealing your deer.

I did I moved to MS .... other than that it sucks to spend more on licenses than you do on property taxes

There are ways around it, but as previously stated, if you get caught (and they do check) it is a felony.... juice not worth the squeeze

Yep...not worth it. It would be hard to explain why you have a La license plate and DL but a resident license.

And this. How would you like to lose the ability to hunt in MS and LA, lose your truck and deer rifle, get a huge fine and possibly go to jail-just because you wanted to save a couple hundred bucks? Do you want the same for your son?

Not worth it.

That's an old myth...they don't take your truck, 4wheeler, gun, and everything else. Lol
