I’m looking to put a metal building in my back yard primarily to be used as a workshop. I have built the sheds from the ground up for my previous homes and hoping to avoid doing that this time and will go with a metal building kit. I need one long and narrow, probably 12 x 30. There are a gazillion companies out there selling these and I’m hoping to get a recommendation from someone on a quality company. I know we have a lot of woodworkers in here so I’m optimistic that some one has recently gone down this path.

I will be watching this thread, I am researching now for a 20'x40' to but on my property in South Ms. I will then build out the interior as living space.

Talked with a concrete guy today and he pointed me to ADCO, I am waiting a call back from them now

Nucor Building Systems out of Terrell, Texas.

eta: don't be overwhelmed with the type of projects they show on their website. they can do stupid easy shops as well as the big factories, dealerships, churches, etc.

General Steel is another company i'd look into.

I used Wilson construction out of wagoner Oklahoma for my pole barn. Still need to get a slab for the inside. Had them come out to my place in Carriere MS.

I wanted to DIY this myself but just didn't have the time to commit to the project. Just put up a 50x60, will be finished this week. Keep us posted I'd love to see to progress and know how it goes for you, the ups and downs.

Check out Coast to Coast carports. Look at their facebook page. A buddy just had them build one for a great price.

Avoid Carolina carports. We waited 4 months for a carport for my sons truck. It went from 6 weeks, to 12 weeks almost immediately. I understand the delays with COVID but their interface between the factory and installation absolutely sucks. We had multiple scheduled installation dates that got rescheduled the day of. I ended up eating the deposit and moving on. I’d recommended them here before but I would not again.

Unless time is of the essence stick built buildings are more affordable....especially a 12 X 30. Foundation costs are identical and a 12 X 30 stick built shop is an easy project for any DIYer with a modicum of experience building something....if you can read a rule and cut something with a circular saw sort of square a 12 X 30 storage shed is very simple. The beauty of steel buildings lies in the relative quick drying in phase...interior finishes take as long and can take longer....and of course if you aren't confident in stick building it yourself the cost for a contractor to do it will be about the same either way. The steel building will usually be dried in faster though, depending on availability and the priority of the builder. If availability is an issue the material to stick build a shed that size, other than the foundation, assuming it is on a slab, is available at home depot on a Sunday....

This is not uncommon for one off builds. Even in standard sizes the market is tight and therefore not a priority with the supplier or the builders.

Neighbor just put up a 20x20 Mueller building that is really nice, not sure what he paid just for the building but it is pretty solid.

Check out versatube buildings. Like an erector set. Can be built relatively easily with a few people.

That ain't no lie! CRAZY expensive...but so is steel and in the case of steel building materials the prices go up and down together....

I paid $27 for a sheet of 7/16 OSB about a month ago...I nearly had a STROKE!
