Low Profile Baitcaster for Inshore - Curado?

I’ve been using a Curado K inshore paired w/ a 7’ Medium-Fast St. Croix Tidemaster for about 2 years with good results. I just hose it off. Looking to buy my father in law a new set up and wanted to see if there’s a better solution within the same $300 budget.
Currado K is $180 and St Croix Triumph (couldn’t find a Tidemaster) is $100.
Preference is a low profile vs round due to the weight.
TIA

I bought a Daiwa Coastal and really like it. Can throw it a mile and the second fish I caught on it was a 10+# red which it handled flawlessly.(FWTW)
Its not replacing my old Curado, but its a really nice reel.

The Daiwa Coastal is great along with the entire Tatula line.

I'm a Shimano fan so no other help on other brands other than I haven't been super thrilled with the 13 Fishing stuff I've tried.
Check Ebay, there's a seller on there that sells the K for $160 shipped, I've bought a couple, no complaints. There's another seller that has them from $145 but list them as coming from China and I don't trust that.

another vote for the diawa coastal sv. I have one and probably about to get another.

I’m a Curado guy. Just bought my son the diawa costal tws. It is a fantastic reel.

Currado K is $180
I bought my Dad the Shimano Tranx (smallest size) for Father's day this year. He has enjoyed fishing with it. Basically same as Curado with more water sealing and salt resistant. I paid less than $180 on Ebay

Thanks all. Looked at the Tranx, but I'd like something lighter weight. His shoulder is starting to bother him after a day of casting. Hoping something lightweight and easy to cast will help.
On the Diawa Costal, looks like they make a few different versions. I'll start researching. Thanks again

Love my Curado K but give the Lews lite speed lfs a look. Those two paired with any St Croix rod should do most things well.

Was wondering about Lews. I procrastinated and need something in stock at BPS as my local tackle shop is out of smaller reels.
He's using an older Ambassadeur so all these will be an upgrade. Main concern is corrosion. Nothing is maintenance free, but I don't want him to need a new reel in a year.

Go look and see if sportsmans outfitters still has the deal on the lews lite speed lfs. They ship pretty quick and the deal they give makes it more than worth it. I still think its a mistake. A few other people ended up getting them last time I posted it so maybe they could chime in.
That paired with a 7' MF St Croix avid would be about as light and versatile as it gets. It would be strong enough to handle slot reds and sensitive enough to jig for trout.

Roger. Been drooling over an Avid myself. Out of budget for this purchased but I have to know... is it worth the extra cash from the Tidemaster?
FYI: my backup rods (Redfish extremes from BPS) have old Curado D’s on them. Still chugging along.

What would he be using it for 80% of the time?
I have mistreated my curado k to the extreme and the thing keeps working. I have a lot of confidence in the shimano line. You really can not go wrong with either.

That’s good to know. 100% saltwater. We relocated to Va outside of Newport News and are minutes from the Bay. So all saltwater and 1-2 a week.

Is it mostly redfish our that way?

The Chronarch G is made for salt and is an incredible reel. I can’t make it backlash and it slings everything a mile. Takes up your whole budget but for inshore where I couldn’t care less about sensitivity I’d be content slapping it on a cheap arse rod and calling it a day.

Redfish (locally: puppy drum), specs, flounder, and stripers. Reds get massive here (many past 40 and 50 isn’t uncommon) but the fishery is much more cyclical for both reds and specs than LA. For perspective, the limit on specs is 5 and they have to be 15”. This has been a good year for specs and great for reds. Last year was brutal.
Not really an inshore species, but cobia are here in the summer. The come into the bay and you can be on them within minutes of launching.
People here go nuts for trophy striper. A lot of that is in the winter, and I’m not overly enthusiastic about that. I’ll catch 24” in the flats and make tacos.

Seconded, thirded, whatever. I never made a conscious decision to shift from Shimano to Daiwa but that's the way my purchases have gone over the last few years.

My redfish/marsh beater rig is a curado K with 13 concepts fate black 7’1” MF rod. Hardy enough for those bigger fish and plenty sensitive enough for trout. Should keep you under $300, too.

If you look on Ebay, you can generally pick up used Curados for about $80. Snap one up and as soon as it arrives, drop it off at the reel shop and have them do a once over for $20.
I've scored several serviceable Curados that way.
