Yet the agents love to write tickets at the drop of a hat. Pathetic agency.

bought a boat from a dealer last July (2025). I still have not received my registration/decals. Been on the phone with them several times and have been told multiple times that I’ll get it. Yes, address confirmed as correct. Never thought there could be a worse government dept than DMV. I was wrong.
I just don’t understand the hold up. You just input data and it spits your stuff out. One clerk should be able to enter 100s a day.

Renewed my boat registration online on 4/16/2026 and got my year 2029 stickers in the mail on 4/20/2026, they must have figured out how to work a little faster.

Not completely related to this- but how is it even possible in that LA doesn't have satellite offices where you can do this, or register a new boat, etc?

This! There's a field office in Hammond and one in Lacombe that would be so much more convenient.

Update: Spoke to a guy at the registration office yesterday. My email was still in their inbox (512 emails) from 2 weeks ago. He said they are terribly understaffed and their new and improved system was not working properly. Said they’re drowning in boat registration requests. I don’t know why they won’t farm it out to private providers like DMV does.

I know they are terrible at updating and basically everything, but it still says on their website that they will mail reminders out for renewals. Mine needs to be renewed by July. I think I usually get it in May sometime.

Both of mine are expired and I received no invoice or reminder for neither.

Just wanted to bump this because I got my reminder in the mail yesterday. So it seems they are still sending out renewal reminders. According to the website you should get it 45 days before it expires. That’s about when mine came in. Going to try to mail it and see how it goes.

I did not get a reminder in the mail or email, but I’m grateful you bumped it, because I just renewed mine and realized today is the 59th day since it expired.

ETA: The renewal notice came in the mail yesterday. So I received the renewal notice 60 days after it expired.

LDWF is an absolute crap show right now with boat registrations. It took six months before I got mine on a boat I bought last year.

I did not get a reminder, I paid for a renewal on time in october. Still waiting on the renewal stickers and paperwork. I do have the paid receipt and they do show that I did renew.

I never got the reminder. Did the renewal online and had the new stickers in a few days.

Similar deal here, we bought a boat that was Coast Guard documented, LDWF won’t register it until the USCG part is done, which took ~8 months to get done. Mailed off the paperwork for registration and keep following up. As of last week they’re processing mail-ins that were submitted about a month before ours. We’re closing in on having the boat almost a year and it’s still not fully registered.

Nah, online licensing is also a shite show some days.
Low bid brother in law IT is my humble guess. I have had luck emailing renewals to quail drive, typically they will respond that additional info is needed.

I am bumping this- i tried searching but couldn't find it.

Thought it was in this thread but I dont see it.

Did somebody post there is a title/registration place in Lake Charles I can use to get my boat stuff switched into my name without going to BR?

Word from the wise. Ride around on our local waterways (Tickfaw, Amite, Diversion) with teeny bikinis in your boat and you have a 110% chance of being pulled over by erryone. Green jeans, LPSO, Coasties…none of them must get out much, and they are going to want to check your personal floatation devices up close.

Just had to deal with this last month. If you live in or around Baton Rouge I would just take an hour or two and go to LDWF office. Once you get to the window it literally takes them 3 or 4 minutes and you will have it all. The lady told me the same thing another poster said, they are understaffed and the launch of their new system was not a smooth transition.

I got my registration in the mail yesterday, August 3rd. I mailed it in with a check around May 29th. They deposited the check a few days later. So roughly 2 months from when I received the reminder to getting my registration in.

Only for trailers not boats.
Me and wife received emails prompting us to renew our fishing license a month after renewing them.
More than one of my clients has fished without a license because the website was down. Ole Jack should’ve hooked up a better IT buddy and he wouldn’t have been pinched.
