Next weekend. You Lake Pontchartrain boys better enjoy while you can. I believe this will (again) help the lake in the long run (explosion of life from the introduction of more nutrients) but i'm sure everyone will be bitching (they don't understand the circle of life and the food chain)

I remember when they opened it last time a bunch of people were smoking the big catfish in the Spillway.

I was just thinking this would be an opportunity for something special.

The really interesting one to watch is Morganza. If flooding upriver gets as bad as it is forecast to they might look to open it once again. Combine that with the scare at Old River in 1973 and it's going to be worth watching what the Corps does. River levels in Greenville, MS and other areas nearby are already forecasted to be over 1973 levels not including the rains forecast this weekend and next week upriver.

Isn't the river flooding the delta how nature replenishes and keeps it from eroding and we spend billions to fight erosion and go out of our way to make sure the river doesn't flood the delta.

It'll be interesting to see what they do. The river, at the BR Stage, is at 31.7' now. Flood Stage is 35' and it is projected to get to 43' and crest on 05/21.

Looks like my Old River trip will be in the Fall.

Last time they opened the spillway believe it or not it really didn't hurt the causeway bite. We still caught fish out there even with river water on top.
I can't see how they won't open it this year, the flooding in the MS delta is predicted to be worse than it has been in over 75 years. Before we leveed everything in the river getting into the lake was a natural thing will be the same this year.

Looks like it's gonna be like last summer. We couldn't get there until damn near the end of August.
I hope our camp gets raised. We went by last weekend and they had the it on the beams, but hadn't raised it yet.

I don't think it is the flooding in Louisiana that they are so concerned with. The districts near Memphis, Arkansas City, Greenville, etc. that are going to be threatened are going to want to relieve pressure on the levies somehow to prevent a major breach. This is one thing they can do with minimal impacts (although people with camps, farms, and cattle in these areas would probably disagree). Also if the river flow begins to scour out the Old River control system like it did in 1973 then Morganza might be utilized.

If they do open it, I'd love to be there to witness.

If they do open it, It would be the BIGGEST mistake they ever made

Why?
the river has been trying to change course for years. It would be a HUGE mistake to open Morganza again. And they will only do it to save New Orleans

Not doubting you-I just don't know what you mean.

Saw that in advocate and caught my eye. I don't even know exactly where BC Spillway is but since I fish the river I was wondering how it may affect it.

Will not happen. Too many political interest in the area which includes fields, crops, camps, and the threat of 1973 all over again.
