Looking for handguns for my fiance and I. Where do I start?

I grew up with shotguns as a kid, my fiance didn’t grow up with guns at all.
Where would you start with home defense hand guns, and more importantly, where would you start for a handgun for a female? My parents have Glocks, which I like shooting, but looking for suggestions.
Strictly home defense, as I travel a lot for work and need to get her something.
ETA: Thanks everyone for the advice. Very helpful!

Where are you located that will help with pointing you to a place where she can go shoot a few of them.
Glock g43x is what I carry my wife carries a g43 as well as a ruger lcp.
That being said when she first started shooting she thought she wanted a super small pistol because of the perception that it was less recoil and noise. It didn’t take her long to figure out she liked shooting my full size Glock 17.
Whatever you get make sure she burns through several boxes of ammo and gets comfortable loading unloading and clearing malfunctions if not you have bought her an expensive brick.

Guy on YouTube “Honest Outlaw” has reviewed hundreds of guns of all types. He’s my go to for what’s reliable and the best in its price range.

Bersa Thunder .380 Combat. Smooth shooter. 15+1. If she doesn’t enjoy shooting it she isn’t going to want anything to do with it.

Wife has a snub 357 loaded with 38s and a 4" barrel 38. She likes revolvers.
She shoots it well, no slide to limp wrist or clear, low recoil with the type of gun and shooting the 38s.
A youth 20g is also a good idea. Short, light, women can shoot it. Kills dead.

Great question. This will be my first firearm purchase. Where do I need to be on price to get great value for what I’m purchasing?

Kimber Micro Raptor .380.
Like someone said…. If she is scared of it she won’t shoot it. The Kimber is an excellent little purse gun. Small frame for feminine hands. .380 is basically a 9mm short. Bought my mother one and she loves hers. She is 5’1”.

I'd suggest a full sized handgun for the house to start. Then figure out what you like in a gun if you want to purchase something to carry that is more compact. Glock 17 or 19. Or a Glock 45 which is just a 19 slide and barrel with a 17 grip. Glock isn't super expensive, but not the cheapest. But it will go bang and is my easiest handgun to clean. Tons of interchangeable parts available. Just a solid gun to start with.
No true external safety, but that can be a benefit. Just have a good understanding of gun safety

I highly recommend that you find a gun range with guns to rent and shoot as many different ones as you can to find something that works for you as well as her. Don’t just take someone’s recommendation. Have her shoot 380 and 9 mm to find her recoil tolerance. Also find a semiauto that she can work the slide. Problem with a revolver is in the double action mode , the way it is intended to be shot, the trigger is very heavy and many women cannot pull the trigger. If you precook to single action mode now essentially you have a hair trigger setup. Many people do not realize this.

All of them.
I have a G19 and G48. I don't think my hands are that small (no jokes), but I don't like the G19 grip. I much prefer the G48 (with 15 rd extended mags) for better grip. The wife has a S&W M&P 9mm EZ ... "lighter weight" recoil spring for easier manipulation. Shoots well, and triggers are way better than Glocks. I'm a 1911 fanboy, but you'll get arguments against a 1911 for carry or protection. No better factory trigger--Run Wilson Combat (or other good quality) mags an they're so much fun to shoot. Can't go wrong with a shotgun (low recoil buck) or AR15 for home defense.
Buy them all, and then buy more.
