I've owned at least 4 different iterations of the Stradic over the years. Probably 8-10 reels overall. Only issue I ever had was the rubber covering on the knob of the FI models peel off. My Dad still has those ancient white ones he pulls out from time to time. They look like they've never been cleaned and still are in perfect working condition.

The answer to the spinning reel question is always the Daiwa BG. If they make it in a size you need get the BG. I think I have 6 2500's now.

The 2500 BG is what caused me to give their higher end stuff a look. The only reason I bought a BG combo was so I'd have a decent loaner and I figured I'd never use it otherwise, but it punches way above its weight class.

Been a fan of Okuma for years. They are not that popular in the Gulf Coast region, it seems. But they are extremely popular in the Pacific Northwest from what I have read.
Best bang for the buck in terms of durability and quality back when I purchased mine years ago. I have not purchased one in some time.

I tried out a piscifun carbon x spinning reel on a whim and for a budget reel from China, that thing is smooth and seems to be holding up really well. I now have 5 of them. I don't fish every weekend but do go several times a year, even out to last island and racoon point. You can get good discount codes for them if you search so price point is usually under $70 shipped. Carbon frame, 10+1 stainless ball bearings, nice drag.

a 2000 is pretty big for sacs, 1500 or 1000 series with a high gear ratio would be a better, lighter fit. Diawa in that size is pretty good.

I used to think this and would agree with you had you said 2500. While 1500 is probably perfect, 2000 is not that much bigger overall than 1000s and the biggest difference is in the spool size. This can be an advantage in some situations. I have many, many 1000s and only one each of 1500 and 2000. last year I found myself reaching for the 2000 more than any other rig. I wish 1500 was more common.

True enough and I used to be Shimano only as well. You owe it to yourself to check out the comparable Daiwas next time. I did and my last 4 reel purchases have been Daiwa.

Yeah, they’re not horrible at the price point but they have zero innovation and just spec stuff out to Taiwan or China. Product line is absurdly overcrowded with minimal differences; reminds me of the mattress industry.
I was given one as a gift and it’s fine, but I wouldn’t spend my money on one.

I have one several years old that has held up very well I use for drop shoting...
smooth drag and I've caught some nice bass and some monster choupique on it...
